Ahead Through Obedience

Scripture: Deuteronomy 28:1

“Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God… that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth.” (NKJV)

Obedience is one of the ways God takes us ahead. Israel’s advancement was connected to their willingness to listen to and follow God’s instructions. They did not move forward by their own strength, wisdom, or ability, but by obeying the voice of the Lord.

Often, we desire God’s promises while ignoring His instructions. Yet many breakthroughs are found on the other side of obedience. What God asks us to do may not always be easy or make sense at the moment, but obedience positions us for His favour, protection, and promotion.

As we choose to obey God in the small and big things, He directs our steps and leads us into the future He has prepared for us.

Prayer:
Lord, give me a heart that obeys You quickly and completely. Help me to trust Your Word and walk in Your ways. Through my obedience, take me ahead into Your purpose and blessings. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Psalm 127:4 (CSB)

4Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the sons born in one’s youth.

1 Samuel 16:11–13 (CSB)

11Samuel asked him, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” he answered, “but right now he’s tending the sheep.” Samuel told Jesse, “Send for him. We won’t sit down to eat until he gets here.”

12So Jesse sent for him. He had beautiful eyes and a healthy, handsome appearance. Then the LORD said, “Anoint him, for he is the one.”

13So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully on David from that day forward. Then Samuel set out and went to Ramah.

Reflection

David was likely only a teenager, aged between 12 and 15, when he received his anointing to become the future king of Israel. Despite this divine call, he did not rush to take the throne. He remained dedicated to his responsibilities, continuing to care for his father's flock. It was during this period that he refined his talents: playing the harp to bring peace to Saul, guarding the sheep against predators, and serving as a steadfast soldier and army commander. It took about 15 years from his anointing to him becoming king, at 30 years of age.

The story of David illustrates that a young person who is anointed serves as a powerful instrument in the hands of God. David did not boast about his calling or attempt to force his way into leadership before God intended. He became a master of the wilderness and everyday tasks long before his encounter with Goliath. Use your younger years wisely; just as arrows directed by a warrior's hand allow God to channel your strength for His kingdom and use it for His ultimate plan for your life.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of youth. Help me to remain faithful in my current season—cultivating my gifts and trusting Your timing rather than seeking recognition. May I be a sharp arrow in Your hand, prepared for the work You have set before me. Amen.

Ahead Through Intercession

Acts 12:5 (NKJV)

“Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church.”

Peter’s imprisonment could have delayed the assignment God had given him. Yet, while Peter was bound in chains, the church understood its responsibility—they prayed.

This passage teaches us an important truth: God’s sovereignty does not remove our responsibility to pray. God had already chosen Peter for His purpose, but the church still had to intercede. Prayer is not changing God’s mind; it is participating in God’s work. Through prayer, God released His power, sent an angel, broke the chains, and opened the prison doors.

The church did not wait for Peter’s ex*****on to be announced before seeking God. They prayed earnestly and consistently. Their intercession preserved Peter’s life and propelled him into the next season of ministry. As believers, we must understand that prayer does not only help us endure the present; it prepares the future. Through prayer, God strengthens us, protects destinies, and advances His purposes in our lives.

This passage also reminds us of our responsibility to pray for those God has placed over us. Pastors, spiritual leaders, and those carrying the burden of ministry face pressures, opposition, and unseen battles. Instead of only expecting from them, the church must uphold them in prayer. When leaders are strengthened, guided, and protected by God, the people they serve are blessed as well. Interceding for our leaders is not an option; it is part of the church’s calling.

SHEPHERD THE FLOCK

1 Peter 5;2-4

2 shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness; 3 nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock.
4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. (NASB)

As we continue on the subject of LEADERSHIP, we take an areal view of Godly Leadership.

May we grow and advance in our areas of influence as we learn and implement these great leadership principles.

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭18‬:‭19‬-‭23

”19 Now listen to me: I will give you counsel, and God be with you. You be the people's representative before God, and you bring the disputes to God,

20 then teach them the statutes and the laws, and make known to them the way in which they are to walk and the work they are to do.

21 Furthermore, you shall select out of all the people able men who fear God, men of truth, those who hate dishonest gain; and you shall place these over them as leaders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties and of tens.

22 Let them judge the people at all times; and let it be that every major dispute they will bring to you, but every minor dispute they themselves will judge. So it will be easier for you, and they will bear the burden with you.

23 If you do this thing and God so commands you, then you will be able to endure, and all these people also will go to their place in peace." (Exodus 18:19-23, NASB)

Jethro, Moses's father in law, counsels Moses on the architecture of spiritual leadership, the selection criteria and the implementation thereof.

First and foremost God is the ‘Go to’ regarding His people and the business of His people. You as the chosen and the called are responsible and you're a conduit and the ‘Go between’.

Secondly you're to teach, equip and train the people the ways of the Lord. They must be clear regarding God's standards and statues; The lives they're to live before God and their responsibilities.

Amongst them find those you're to trust with sharing your load and duties. They must obviously be:

Teachable men living a Godly life.

Capable men from who are God fearing ,

Trustworthy, upright men who hate dishonest gain. Not the corrupt self serving kind.

Men of Integrity.

With leaders of these characters and attributes, the people of God will be well served and looked after.

These standards still stand even today for God's kingdom and the church of the LORD Jesus Christ.

SO HELP US GOD ❗🙏🏾.

2 Chronicles 19:6-8

King Jehoshaphat, the fourth king of Judah (after separation from Northern Israel), appointed priests and Levites to adjudicate on behalf of the Lord, entrusting them to hear cases and render decisions as leaders over God’s people. This serves as a vital reminder: whenever we are called into a position of leadership, we must walk with caution, recognizing that we represent God himself (as seen in verse 6 of chapter 19). Whether you are serving as a teacher, raising a child as a parent, or even performing the humble task of making tea for an employer, you are called to a posture of fearing the Lord. Whatever duties are placed in your hands, perform them diligently, as unto the Lord.

Colossians 3:18-25 NLT puts it this way: “Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly. Children, always obey your parents, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not aggravate your children, or they will become discouraged. Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything you do. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. Serve them sincerely because of your reverent fear of the Lord. Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ. But if you do what is wrong, you will be paid back for the wrong you have done. For God has no favorites.”

Prayer

Lord help me to do my best in all commitments you have given me to lead, whether at home or at work, or church, help me to lead willingly and diligently as unto the Lord not man. In Jesus name amen.

Ahead Through Faith

Mark 5:27–28 (NKJV)
“When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, ‘If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.’”

The woman with the issue of blood shows us what it means to be ahead through faith. Even though she came from behind in the crowd, her spirit was already ahead because she believed before she received.

For twelve years she carried pain, but in one moment she carried conviction. She said within herself, “If I touch Him, I will be healed.” That declaration positioned her future before her present condition changed.

Ahead people don’t wait for visible change before they believe. They move internally before anything changes externally. Her faith went ahead of her struggle and pulled her into breakthrough.

Even in the crowd, she was spiritually ahead because faith always moves before manifestation.

Prayer: Lord, help me to move ahead in faith even when my situation has not changed. Amen.

Integrity in Leadership

Psalm 78:72 (NKJV)

“So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.”

Reflection

The quality that defined King David’s leadership, making him a "man after God's own heart," was his integrity—the integrity of his heart. Psalm 78:72 encapsulates this ideal, demonstrating that godly leadership requires two inseparable components: integrity of heart (moral character and devotion to God) and skillful hands (competence and wisdom in ex*****on).

While David was not perfect and experienced catastrophic moral failures, his integrity was demonstrated by his profound penitence. Unlike Saul, who made excuses for his disobedience, David immediately confessed, "I have sinned against the Lord," when confronted by Nathan. This yielded heart, quick to accept correction, is the blueprint for true integrity in leadership.

We are called to lead with the same heart, whether in our homes, workplaces, or communities. This means anchoring our identity in our assignment from God, not the approval of people (like Saul did), and avoiding the compromise of prioritizing personal gain over God’s standards (the failure of Eli and his sons). True integrity is not a lack of failure, but a commitment to humility, taking responsibility for our failures and repentance by turning away from sin and asking God for restoration.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we pray for the integrity of heart and skillful hands that characterized King David. Search our hearts today, and where we have failed, grant us the grace to repent immediately without making excuses. Help us to lead with humility and a teachable heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
