THURSDAY 18 June

Today we remember Bernard Mizeki, whose faith remained strong even in the face of great hardship. The readings remind us that God never abandons His people and that we can trust Him, even when life feels uncertain. His love and presence remain constant through every season.

Daily Reminder:
Courage doesn’t mean having no fear. It means trusting God enough to keep moving forward despite it.

As Elijah’s journey comes to an end, Elisha steps forward to continue God’s work. It is a reminder that God’s story keeps unfolding through ordinary people who are willing to say yes. Jesus also reminds us that faith isn’t about appearances; it’s about a genuine relationship with God that grows in the quiet moments.

Daily Reminder:
The time you spend with God when no one else is watching is often where faith grows the most.

At the heart of today’s readings is the reminder that nobody is beyond God’s mercy. Ahab is confronted with his wrongdoing, and Psalm 51 gives us a beautiful prayer of repentance. Jesus then takes us one step further by calling us to love not only our friends, but even those who may have hurt us.

Daily Reminder:
We all make mistakes, but God’s grace is bigger than our failures. Don’t be afraid to ask for forgiveness and begin again.

Today’s readings remind us how easily things can go wrong when selfish desires take over. The story of Naboth’s vineyard shows the consequences of greed and abuse of power, while Jesus challenges us to respond to others with grace rather than seeking revenge. Psalm 5 encourages us to start the day by placing our trust in God and seeking His guidance.

Today's Reminder:
Not every battle needs to be fought. Sometimes the best thing we can do is hand a situation over to God and choose peace instead.

What a wonderful afternoon at St Paul’s Anglican Church!

Our church was packed as music lovers gathered to enjoy a world-class performance by Cobus du Toit, Eugene Joubert and Liza Klopper. Their exceptional musicianship and beautiful music captivated the audience from start to finish.

It was a rare privilege to host artists of international standing right here in Port Alfred, and the afternoon will be remembered long after the final note was played.

This morning at St Paul’s, we celebrated a special milestone as Rev. Luvuyo Mvaphantsi admitted Lisa Swanepoel as our youngest Altar Girl.

As we reflected on today’s Gospel reading, where Jesus called His disciples to serve with faith and compassion, it was fitting to witness Lisa answering her own call to serve God’s church. May she grow in faith, confidence and joy as she takes up this important role within our parish family.

We wish Lisa every blessing on this journey and look forward to seeing her serve at the altar for many years to come.

On this chilly Sunday morning in Port Alfred, Rev. Luvuyo Mvaphantsi reflected on Matthew 9:35–10:8, reminding us that Jesus looked upon the crowds with compassion, seeing people who were lost and in need of hope.

His message challenged us to trust God enough to answer His call, even when the road ahead seems uncertain. Just as Jesus sent out His disciples with little more than faith, we too are called to be bearers of hope, kindness and encouragement in a world that often feels broken.

The good news is that there is nothing too difficult for God. When we place our trust in Him and faithfully do the work He has given us, He takes care of the rest.

Today, may we be encouraged to see others through the eyes of Christ, to love our neighbours, and to remember that what God promises, He fulfils. 🙏

As we look back on this past week, we are reminded of just how present God has been in our lives. Through the challenges we faced, the opportunities we were given to serve others, and the quiet moments when we needed reassurance, God was there.

The readings this week reminded us that God continues to provide, guide, call and encourage His people. Even when we cannot always see the way ahead, He remains faithful. As we move into a new week, may we carry these lessons with us, trusting Him a little more, loving others a little better, and allowing His light to shine through us in all that we do.
