SECOND SUNDAY | JOY IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

SERVING WITH JOY

On Sunday, 14 June 2026 District Rector Shepherd T. Baker conducted the morning divine service in Piketberg Congregation.

BIBLE TEXT: Nehemiah 8:10 (excerpt)
Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

Evangelist Hendricks was called upon to serve the congregation.

MESSAGE
We serve in the joy that Christ is near us.

SUMMARY
■ Christians are called to serve God joyfully in the church.
■ When we serve, let us be aware that we are serving both God and our neighbour.
■ When we serve with enthusiasm, our witness can be inviting.
■ The deepest source of our joy is the nearness of Jesus Himself.

In the Hands of Our Good God

On Sunday, 14 June 2026, the children of Piketberg Congregation gathered for a special Sunday School Divine Service immediately after the morning divine service.

The sermon was based on the Bible text from Jeremiah 29:11:

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."

Message
God thinks about us and gives us a future and hope.

Word Summary:
■ God thinks about each person personally and lovingly.
■ His thoughts are thoughts of peace.
■ God not only grants us a future here in this world, but even goes beyond that to promise
us eternal fellowship with Himself.
■ The hope that God gives us strengthens us today and gives us courage in all circumstances.

The children received a special reminder when they are unsure and afraid:
■ God is thinking about you
■ God’s thoughts are thoughts of peace
■ God gives us a future and hope

As a take-home activity, the children were encouraged to think each day about one way in which God has cared for them and to thank Him for the blessings they have received.

The work and activity of the triune God are expressed in the closing
benediction of the divine service.

Summary
■ The Trinitarian benediction is a powerful divine promise.
■ The blessing is addressed first and foremost to us personally. Yet it must also have an impact on those around us.
■ The blessing of God encourages us to live our lives as true Christians.
