2022 and 2023 marked years of severe turmoil for Dale Street Congregational church.
2024 Rev Volanie was sent to this church by the Algoa Regional Council. The Rev had to steer a ship that was sailing on stormy waters -and the boat was deeply battered. But with God as her captain, she took the helm🙌🏼
Unfortunately, Rev Volanie also sometimes became victim to this storm. But, Rev Volanie kept calm, knowing that her God can quiet any storm🙌🏼
Many a times, the Rev had to make difficult and unpopular decisions to keep the ship afloat, to avoid it from hitting that ice-berg that would mean complete sinking.
2025 July the church did a temporary calling to Rev Euodia Volanie to become our appointed Reverend until 2027. The Reverend listened to God and gracefully accepted.
The Reverend accepted a calling -that she might not always have been ready for and that the church mostly wasn’t ready for…but both the Reverend and the congregrants knew ‘Dale Street Congregational Church belongs to God’. The seas were treacherous, but the ship sailed, moved forward and the waters calmed. Episodic storms still appeared, but the ship was mostly sturdy and steady.
At the end of August, God gave an opportunity to Rev Volanie to go and pursue her PhD (doctorate) overseas. Reverend Volanie now has to leave the ship. One fact about the Reverend’s journey is undisputed -she is leaving the ship better than what she has found it.
(In this, we want to thank God, the Reverend’s late parents: oom Paul and aunty Moi and her siblings and their spouses for laying this foundation an keeping up the arms of Rev Volanie).
It is now time for the congregants of Dale Street Congregational Church to thank Rev Euodia Volanie for her time steering Dale Street Congregational Church. (And here we are grateful for electronic media that will leave a forever-footprint).
As a church, we want to thank the Rev for taking us to calmer waters, for standing strong at the helm when sinking seemed almost sure.
We want to thank the Reverend for reminding us ‘a ship can be safely anchored at the sore…but that is not what ships were built for. Ships were made to sail the waters’.
