ECCLESIA AFRICANA SECOND ISSUE. 📚✍️🏫

The second issue of Ecclesia Africana is out now! It appears at a time of global upheaval and increasing inequality, a period when we are living with renewed questions about the identity and mission of the Church, both in Africa and the wider world.

This volume attempts to present answers to these pressing realities, inviting us to reimagine the Church in contemporary Africa.

The second issue is available to download from our website:

Do you want to contribute?

Be sure to send in your submissions for the 2027 volume by 30 November 2026.

WORSHIP WITH Archbishop Thabo Makgoba AT THE COLLEGE

His Grace, Archbishop Thabo Makgoba, quietly joined us for worship today in the morning. 🕯️

He came to Makhanda for the Archbishop Thabo Makgoba Development Trust annual lecture which is facilitated by Rhodes University Business School.🏬

Drawing on his experience of residential formation
here, His Grace encouraged students and staff to remain faithful to God's call even in those moments of doubt or despair. 🙏🏼

The College appreciates His Grace's deep love for and commitment to theological education and training of future church leaders.💒

TUTU LECTURES 2026

Join us on Monday 28 September for the second COTT Tutu Lecture of 2026. Our speaker will be our alumnus, the Rev'd Dr Brent Frieslaar, who will be addressing the topic The Image That Cannot Be Sold: Ubuntu, the Imago Dei, and the Church’s Response to Human Trafficking. Rev'd Dr Frieslaar will argue that human trafficking is not only a social, legal, or policy crisis, but a theological crisis because it treats God’s children as though they were not fully human. Drawing on doctoral research into the testimony of five South African survivors of s*x trafficking, gathered in the field by a co-researcher, it will be argued that exploitation cannot damage or erase the image of God in a survivor. Her dignity is not damaged property waiting for repair, but a divine truth that trafficking was never able to reach. This claim will be brought into conversation with Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s theology of ubuntu, African feminist theology, and Appreciative Inquiry as a resurrection-shaped pastoral practice. It will be contended that incarnation and resurrection are not doctrines the Church merely recites, but truths it must practise through preaching, safety, accompaniment, advocacy, and sustained communal presence. What then, are we called to do as the Church?

COTT STRENGTHENING WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH ACSA DIOCESES💒

THIRD DAY OF THE VISIT—2026🎯

Yesterday our seminarians engaged in different ministries in the Anglican Diocese Of Mthatha Official including visiting the Nelson Mandela Museum.🏢🪎🪙

This excursion was important for leadership mentoring and forming—especially reflecting on the life and legacy of Tata Nelson Mandela.📜

We thank God for the gifts of formation and training in the life of the College.💒
