Vers vir die dag / Verse of the day
Skrif:
I KORINTHIËRS 16:13-14 “Waak, staan in die geloof, wees manlik, wees sterk. Laat alles by julle in liefde geskied.”
Punt:
Lei my sodat ek manlik sal wees soos U Woord leer — moedig, volwasse en verantwoordelik. Dankie dat ek weet my krag kom van U. Help my om alles in liefde te doen, sodat die wêreld U liefde in my kan sien, en dat ek ’n lig kan wees soos U Woord my leer.

Passage:
I CORINTHIANS 16:13-14 “Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. Let all that you do be done with love.”
Point:
A command to be watchful, stand firm in the faith, be brave, be strong, and do everything in love.
Ponder:
Paul gives us five commands in these verses:
• Watch — The Greek word is grēgoreuō, which means to keep awake, to be vigilant, and to watch carefully.
• Stand fast in the faith — The Greek word for “stand fast” is stēkō, which means to persevere or stand firm.
• Be brave — The Greek word is andrizomai, which means to be manly or courageous. This means that we should have courage, be mature and responsible, and put away childish things as we grow in Christ.
• Be strong — The Greek word is krataioō, which means to increase in strength and vigor.
• Do everything in love — The Greek word for “love” here is agapē, which refers to a godly, steadfast, and unmovable love.
As followers of Jesus Christ, we are to be awake and vigilant. We must persevere in the faith and be courageous for the faith. We are called to maturity, to put away childish things, and to act responsibly. Furthermore, we are to be strong in the Lord and do everything in love, showing God’s love to the world.
Profession:
In Jesus Christ, the Rock and Firm Foundation, and through the grace of God, I can be watchful and steadfast in the faith. I can be brave and strong, and I can walk in love.
Prayer:
Father, help me to be awake and vigilant, and to persevere in the faith, knowing that those who wait on You will receive new strength. Guide me so that I will be manly as Your Word teaches — courageous, mature, and responsible. Thank You that I know my strength comes from You. Help me to do everything in love so that the world may see Your love in me, and that I may be a light as Your Word teaches.
