Vers vir die dag / Verse of the day

Skrif:

‭‭LUKAS‬ ‭9‬:‭23‬ ‭“EN Hy sê vir almal: As iemand agter My aan wil kom, moet hy homself verloën en sy kruis elke dag opneem en My volg.”

Punt:

Amen.

Passage:

LUKE 9:23 “Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”

Point:

If you want to be a follower of Jesus, you must deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Him.

Ponder:

Jesus gives us three things that we must do if we want to follow Him:
1. Deny yourself.
2. Take up your cross.
3. Follow Him.

These requirements that Jesus gave 2,000 years ago to those who wanted to follow Him are still the same requirements today if we want to be His followers.

This means that you deny yourself. You no longer live for yourself; you die to yourself and now live for Jesus Christ and for His glory.

Paul writes in Galatians 2:20:
“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

To follow someone means to walk the same path as that person, like a disciple. It means that I imitate the person I am following in everything that he does.

Jesus’ invitation to follow Him means that we become His disciples, imitate Him in everything, and walk the same path that He walked.

Listen to what Jesus says in the next three verses:
Luke‬ ‭9‬:‭24‬-‭26‬ “For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels.”

These words remind us that true life is not found in self-centered living or worldly success, but in complete surrender to Jesus Christ.

Profession:

I choose to deny myself, take up my cross, and follow Jesus.

Prayer:

Father, I choose to deny myself, take up my cross daily, and follow Jesus. Give me the strength to remain faithful to this decision that I have made. So that I might imitate Him in everything that I do. In the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Vers vir die dag / Verse of the day

Skrif:

Paulus gee vir Timótheüs drie opdragte in hierdie teks:

1. Stry die goeie stryd.
2. Hou vas aan die geloof.

Amen.

Passage:

I TIMOTHY 1:18-19 “This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck.”

Point:

Fight the good fight, hold on to the faith, and maintain a good conscience.

Ponder:

Paul gives Timothy three instructions in this passage:

1. Wage the good fight.
2. Having faith.
3. Having a good conscience.

This is advice for all believers.

Wage the good fight: Life sometimes becomes difficult, and we all face personal challenges. Yet, despite the things we go through, we must persevere and continue fighting the good fight.

Having faith: Hold firmly to your faith in Jesus Christ.

Having a good conscience: Our conscience is a gift from God, and we can silence it by simply choosing not to listen to it. Do not violate your conscience; keep it clear and pure.

Profession:

I will fight the good fight and hold on to the faith and maintain a clear conscience.

Prayer:

Father, forgive me for the times when I gave up and did not fight the good fight. Forgive me where I have violated my conscience and failed to hold on to the faith.

Lead me, Father, and help me so that I may fight the good fight and hold firmly to the faith and maintain a clear conscience.

In the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Vers vir die dag / Verse of the day

Skrif:

Belydenis:

Ek sal die pad van my voet vasmaak in geregtigheid.

Gebed:

Vader, U weë is reg en regverdig. Vandag besluit ek om my weë vas te maak in U geregtigheid. Help my en gee my die krag sodat ek nie van U weë sal afwyk nie. In die Naam van Jesus Christus. Amen.

Passage:

PROVERBS 4:26-27 “Ponder the path of your feet, And let all your ways be established. Do not turn to the right or the left; Remove your foot from evil.”

Point:

Choose to walk the path of righteousness and do not depart from it.

Ponder:

The Scripture tells us the following:
• Ponder the path of your feet.
• Let all your ways be established.
• Do not turn to the right or the left.
• Remove your foot from evil.

“The path of your feet” speaks of your walk in life.

This means that your walk should be straight, that you should not take crooked paths, and that you should be firmly determined to walk in righteousness.

What the Scripture is telling us, therefore, is that you must make a decision to walk in righteousness; that your ways should be firmly established in righteousness; that you should not depart from righteousness; and that you should stay far away from evil.

You choose the path on which you will walk.

Joshua says the following in Joshua 24:14-15:
“Now therefore, fear the Lord, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord! And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Profession:

I will establish the path of my feet in righteousness.

Prayer:

Father, Your ways are righteous and just. Today I choose to establish my ways in Your righteousness. Help me and give me the strength so that I will not depart from Your ways. In the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Vers vir die dag / Verse of the day

Skrif:

Punt:

Belydenis:

Ek sal my hart bewaar en beskerm meer as alles.

Gebed:

Vader, vergewe my waar ek nalatig was in die opdrag om my hart te bewaar. Help my om wag te staan oor my hart, sodat ek goeie vrugte kan voortbring wat U verheerlik. Gee my onderskeiding om te weet wat ek in my hart moet toelaat en wat ek moet verwerp. Help my om my gedagtes, woorde en dade aan U Woord te onderwerp. In die Naam van Jesus Christus. Amen.

Passage:

PROVERBS 4:23 “Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.”

Point:

Guard and protect your heart above all else, for the source of life flows from it.

Ponder:

We are taught here that we should guard our hearts above everything else that must be guarded.

As people, we are good at protecting our earthly possessions. We buy screen protectors and covers for our cell phones. We install alarm systems and cameras in our homes. We lock our vehicles in garages. We protect what is valuable to us.

How much more, then, should we protect and guard our hearts, since the source of our lives flows from them?

The heart is not physically the source of our lives, but everything we do and say begins as a thought in our hearts.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 12:34-37:

“Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.””

The word “keep” in Proverbs 4:23 is the Hebrew word nâtsar, which means to stand guard, to watch over, and to preserve.

Guard and protect your heart. You are the guard of your heart. You are the one who determines what may enter your heart and what may not, and you are the one who allows things to take root in your heart.

If we allow wrong things to fill our hearts, they will eventually become visible in our words, our actions, and the way we live. Therefore, we must be careful about what we listen to, what we watch, what we read, and with whom we surround ourselves.

When our hearts are filled with the things of God, our lives will produce fruit that glorifies Him and will be a blessing to others.

Confession:

I will guard and protect my heart above all else.

Prayer:

Father, forgive me where I have been negligent in the command to guard my heart. Help me to stand watch over my heart so that I may bear good fruit that glorifies You. Give me discernment to know what I should allow into my heart and what I should reject. Help me to submit my thoughts, words, and actions to Your Word. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Vers vir die dag / Verse of the day

Skrif:

Amen.

Passage:

MATTHEW 18:3 “And said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Point:

We cannot enter the kingdom of heaven unless we are converted and become as little children.

Ponder:

Jesus states here, “Unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Jesus tells us two things:

1. Be converted.
2. Become as little children.

To be converted means to turn from sin and from our own self-reliance and to turn to God. It means to repent, turn from our sinful ways, place our faith in Him, and live in obedience to Him.

But what does it mean to become as little children?

Little children are humble, trusting, and full of faith. In essence, we are to have faith like little children and become humble and trusting like them.

Profession:

I will learn from little children to be humble and trusting.

Prayer:

Father, teach me to be humble, full of faith, and trusting You in everything, just like a little child. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Vers vir die dag / Verse of the day

Skrif:

Amen.

Passage:

LUKE 6:31 “And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.”

Point:

Treat others the way you want to be treated.

Ponder:

Jesus teaches us here that we should do to others what we would like them to do to us.

It comes down to asking ourselves this question: How do we want people to treat us? Then we should go and be the first to treat others in that same way.

As people, we tend to treat others the way they treat us. But Jesus teaches us to be different; to take the initiative and treat others the way we ourselves would like to be treated.

Profesion:

I will treat others the way I want to be treated.

Prayer:

Father, thank You that You loved us first and that You have shown Your goodness to us. Forgive me where I have treated others the way they treated me, and help me to take the initiative and treat others the way I would like to be treated and as Your Word teaches us. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
