THE FIERY FURNACE!” By Johan Terblanche
When we read of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego who were thrown into a fiery furnace, we see that a fourth person were with them in the furnace and how they were delivered from the furnace. (See Daniel 3:8-25)
In Isaiah 43:2, we also read that when we walk through the fire, we will not be burned, and the flames will not us you ablaze.
While many are standing on the promise of Isaiah 43:2, few are willing to follow God’s Word to its fullest. To support this statement, let us quickly look at the lives of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
• Though they were held captive in Babylon, they did not abandon the Lord or the teachings of the past. They also refused to serve any other god. (Daniel 3:12)
• They subjected themselves to the will of God. In Daniel 3:18 they said, “But if not” meaning that in spite of their believes, they will accept whatever outcome the Lord may bring.
• They kept the faith and declared that they believe that the Lord can save them. (See Daniel 3:17)
• They boldly proclaim their trust in the Lord. (Daniel 3:16)
• They were willing to accept the outcome, even if the Lord did not deliver them. (See Daniel 3:18)
• They did not give in to the pressures of the World but stayed true to the Lord. When others bowed before the idol, they remain standing. (Daniel 3:12)
Today I want to encourage you, not just to “stand” on God’s Word like so many do, but to obey it for obedience is better than sacrifice. (1 Samuel 15:22) Let us not expect the Lord to save us, when we are not doing what we were taught, not holding onto the Lord rather than holding on to the promises, or not serving Him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:24)
Let me quickly expand on spirit and in truth as per John 4:24. Note that spirit is spelled with a small “s” indicating man’s spirit and not God’s Holy Spirit. In spirit implies to serve the Lord with our entire being or all that we are.
Truth, also spelled with a small “t” implies that we subject ourselves to the Truth, which is Jesus and then align ourselves with who Jesus is, what Jesus did and how Jesus lived.
In conclusion, to be saved from the fire, we need to be saved and to live accordingly. Let us live like Jesus did, do what Jesus did, and become true followers of the Word before “standing” on the Word.
