One Family - Many Parts
Thank you to our guest speaker Edwin Shumba from Harare.
What can we learn from a flock of geese? What do we learn from the longest list of greetings recorded in Romans 16: 1-16?
Both portray a picture of family, belonging and the need for one another. Christ did not come to start a religion. He did not sacrifice himself for us to tick a box on Sundays. God never intended following Jesus as a clock-in & clock-out job. We are brothers and sisters, connected by the blood of Christ and called to love one another. Care for one another. Leave no-one behind. Family members belong to one another, whether they like each other or not :) Let's live up to our calling and not create divisions but offer helping hands and affirmations where needed. Have an amazing week!

Come & Abide - last part
The slow but obvious transition into Come & Love focus on how we know and use words, how we interpret them in our context - but moreso how Jesus used them. Abide - menó is the word, Abode - moné - is the noun - clearly deriving from the same source, John uses them in only this passage for a good reason: Jesus wants us to understand that He and the Father will make their home in us. The heavenly rooms start right here. Jesus is the key - do we cling to Him? He is the image of the Father, He is the Way, He is the Vine - He is the ultimate sacrificed that paid the price in full - what are we called to do? Love one another.

Michael Burns - The gift that keeps on giving
Our guest speaker is our dear friend who has visited and taught God's word many many times.
Language changes in time, words can change their meaning completely.. It is necessary to have a look at the concepts just as much.. they do change with culture - so does the understanding of charis (grace) - listen to the unpacking of our response to God's amazing gift to us!

Come & Abide - Cutting & Pruning - John 15:2-4
Saved once and for all? Can people loose their faith? What does it mean to be pruned or to wither and be cut off and thrown into the fire?.. biblical tension needs to looked at more in depth.
If we remain in the vine we don't have to worry about the pruning - it is for us to bear fruit, good fruit.
Can we be successful without God? Surely! So what does it mean to be able to do nothing without a connection to Jesus? Can you bear the fruits of the spirit or spiritual fruit by yourself? ..
Jesus said I am the true vine, you are the branches.. branches receive all they need from the stem, they grow and carry the fruit
and get cut back - not out of hatred or as punishment - but to be nurtured and bear fruit again.. How deeply do we abide?

Come & Abide - The Secret of the Christian life
Here we are in the net phase of our series - Come & Abide.
What a great start going through John 15:1-17
Can you picture Jesus walking with his disciples, all very aware of vineyards and understanding that God always viewed and described Israel as His vineyard. Jesus stating that He is The True Vine and we need to REMAIN / ABIDE in Him.
He is connected to the roots, He is the stem through which the nutrients come - we are the branches and our part is to bud and bear fruit. So that God is glorified. How do we abide? 5 thoughts: Trust Christ continually, remain in His word, walk in loving obedience, depend on the Holy Spirit and make Christ your home - individually but also communal. May we remain in Him this week.
