The WCCLU's response to the Pride March organised for 28 Febuary 2026!
Dear Esteemed Church Leaders of the Western Cape,
Grace and peace to you.
We write to you with deep concern and profound disappointment regarding the planned Cape Town Pride March scheduled for 28 February 2026, and the increasing public endorsement and participation in this event by political structures and public institutions.
As followers of Christ, we believe it is necessary to speak plainly yet respectfully. The ideology and values promoted by the Pride movement stand in direct contradiction to Biblical teaching on human identity, sexuality, marriage, and Godโs created order. Scripture affirms that God created male and female (Genesis 1:27), and that sexual expression is reserved for marriage between one man and one woman (Matthew 19:5โ6). These truths are not cultural opinions, but foundational Biblical principles that the Church is called to uphold faithfully and without compromise.
While the Church is commanded to love all people and extend compassion to every individual (Matthew 22:37โ39), this love does not require the affirmation or celebration of lifestyles and belief systems that Scripture identifies as sinful (Romans 1:24โ27). To do so would be to abandon Biblical truth in favour of cultural pressure and ideological conformity.
We are deeply troubled that events such as this march are increasingly normalised and celebrated in the public square, often framed as moral progress, while actively opposing the values that the Church has upheld for generations. Scripture warns against conforming to the patterns of this world rather than being transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2), and cautions that a time would come when people would reject sound doctrine in favour of teachings that suit their own desires (2 Timothy 4:3โ4).
Even more concerning is the silence and the acceptance of Christian leadership in the face of these developments. The Church is called to be salt and light (Matthew 5:13โ16), to speak truth in love (Ephesians 4:15), and to contend for the faith once delivered to the saints (Jude 1:3). Shepherds are instructed to guard and teach the flock with sound doctrine (Titus 1:9).
This is not a call for hatred, hostility, or exclusion. Scripture clearly commands us to act with humility, gentleness, and love (Micah 6:8), while also calling sin what it is and calling all people to repentance and new life in Christ (Acts 17:30).
We therefore urge church leaders across the Western Cape to publicly and courageously stand against this march and what it represents, and to resist the redefinition of morality that stands
in opposition to Godโs Word.
Faithfulness to Christ must always take precedence over cultural approval (Galatians 1:10).
Yours sincerely,
Karen McCarroll
