Fruitful Completion of the 9th Annual Boland Annual Conference Lay Organization Convention
Wellington, South Africa
By Christel Bailey – BACLO Director of Public Relations

The 9th Annual Convention of the Boland Annual Conference Lay Organization (BACLO) was successfully held from 12–14 June 2026 at Bethel AME Church in Wellington under the leadership of President Bro. Henry van Rhyn. The convention brought together delegates, clergy, young adults, and visitors from across the Boland Annual Conference for a weekend of worship, fellowship, learning, and Organisational business.

The convention opened with a powerful worship service where delegates were challenged through the message, "Is There a Caleb Among Us?" by lay preacher, Bro Jerome Zoutman. The sermon called laypersons to remain steadfast in faith, courageous in leadership, and confident in God's ability to lead His people through every challenge.

Throughout the weekend, delegates participated in Bible study, leadership development workshops, district reporting, and strategic discussions aimed at strengthening the ministry and future direction of the Lay Organization. An inspiring Bible study led by Presiding Elder Rev. Dr. Paul Messiah reminded delegates that even in life's "valleys of dry bones," God remains the source of hope, restoration, and renewal.

Reports from the five Presiding Elder Districts highlighted a productive year of ministry, outreach, training, and service. District leaders shared encouraging testimonies of growth and impact within their local congregations and communities, demonstrating the continued commitment of laypersons to advancing the mission of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

A moving Memorial Service, with preacher of the hour, Rev Herold Josephs, honored faithful servants who transitioned during the past year. Delegates reflected on their contributions and celebrated the Christian hope found in Jesus Christ.

The convention also celebrated the achievements of the organization through its annual awards ceremony. Worcester District was recognized as District of the Year, while Paarl District received recognition for the largest delegation. Special appreciation awards were also presented to individuals and districts for their outstanding contributions to the Lay Organization.

A significant highlight of the convention was the election of a new executive team to lead BACLO for the next biennium. Delegates prayerfully participated in the electoral process under the supervision of Episcopal Lay President Sis Libertha Mutambo and Episcopal Director of Lay Activities Bro. Sabata Mojaki.

The convention concluded with a spirit-filled worship service where Presiding Elder Rev. Anthony J. Jacobs challenged the newly elected leadership and delegates to continue serving according to God's will, reminding them that God can use ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary purposes.

Special recognition was given to outgoing President Emeritus Bro. Henry van Rhyn for his faithful leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the growth of BACLO over the years.

The 9th Annual BACLO Convention will be remembered as a gathering marked by spiritual renewal, meaningful fellowship, leadership transition, and a renewed commitment to serving Christ and His Church. As delegates returned to their districts, they did so inspired to continue the work of teaching, training, empowering, and serving throughout the Boland Annual Conference.

πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦ 16 June - National Youth Day
"Youth Rising. Still."

Fifty years ago, young people stood up and changed the course of history. They paid a great price so that the youth of today could rise freely.

At BACLO, we honour that legacy - and we celebrate our own young people who are rising daily through worship, leadership, and service.

To our young people, and especially our YAR - Mignon Basadien - you are seen, you are valued, and you are called.
" Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young." - 1 Timothy 4:12, NIV
