A Joyful Weekend of Music and Youth
Written by Jamie Hannie

This past weekend was a very special and joyful time for our parish, most especially our Youth.
From Friday evening to Sunday morning, we came together to celebrate our faith, friendship and our new instruments.
On Friday 31 July, the youth gathered together in the hall. Father Joseph Arinze Okeke C.O. our beloved parish priest came to us to visit our Youth Space bringing with him brand new musical instruments and invited he invited everyone to choose an instrument and have a chance to play while he lovingly and joyfully played alongside us, leading and guiding us. It was such a memorable evening! We sang together, played the drums, flutes/recorders, trumpets and created a joyful noise unto the Lord. There was so much excitement and laughter as everyone enjoyed learning and making music together. Father enjoyed the evening just as much as we did and it was wonderful to see the youth coming together through music.

On Saturday afternoon at 3:00 to 4:00pm we had our first band practice. We had the opportunity to practise with the new instruments and begin learning how to play together as a band.
Later that evening, during Mass, Father commissioned the new Maintenance Team, The Youth Leadership Team and blessed the new instruments. It was a very meaningful moment for all of us as we prepared to use our talents and musical gifts to serve and bring joy to our church community at St Rita's Parish.

Then on Sunday morning during Mass, Father did the same thing. During both masses after being commissioned, the youth had the opportunity to play the instruments during Mass. It was a proud and special moment for everyone, and it was wonderful to see our new band beginning its journey.

This weekend was filled with joy, music, faith and fellowship. We are very excited about what lies ahead and look forward to growing together as a youth band and using our talents to serve God and our church community.

Upcoming Band Practice
There will be band practice this Friday from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. All youth members are encouraged to come and take part!

Parish Charismatic Renewal Healing Mass Brings Hope and Spiritual Revival

On Father's Day, Sunday, 21 June 2026, parishioners and visitors gathered at St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Chatty, Port Elizabeth for a special Healing Mass hosted by the P.E. Catholic Charismatic Renewal Group represented by various parishes across our diocese led by Father Joseph Arinze Okeke C.O.

The day began with a joyful time of praise and worship at 7:30 a.m., preparing hearts for Holy Mass which followed at 8:00 a.m. Through uplifting hymns, prayers and reflections those present were encouraged to place their trust in God and seek His healing presence.

The Healing Mass brought together people from different communities who came with faith, hope and a desire for spiritual renewal. Father Arinze delivered an inspiring homily, reminding those present that God’s love and mercy is always available to those who seek Him. Special prayers were offered for the sick, suffering and all those carrying heavy burdens in their lives which they were now ready to lay at His feet.

The atmosphere throughout the mass celebration was one of unity, faith and gratitude. Many parishioners expressed appreciation for the opportunity to worship together and experience the comfort and peace that comes from gathering as a faith community, praying for ourselves and one another whilst in union and communion with Our Heavenly Father and His Holy Church.

Wishing All Fathers a God blessed Fathers Day and extended blessings to those you love.

The parish extends its sincere thanks to our parish father, Father Arinze Okeke C.O. Special thanks to the P.E. Catholic Charismatic Renewal Group, all volunteers, and everyone who attended and contributed to making the Healing Mass a meaningful and blessed occasion. May the graces received continue to strengthen and inspire all who were present.
