A Joyful Weekend of Music and Youth
Written by Jamie Hannie
This past weekend was a very special and joyful time for our parish, most especially our Youth.
From Friday evening to Sunday morning, we came together to celebrate our faith, friendship and our new instruments.
On Friday 31 July, the youth gathered together in the hall. Father Joseph Arinze Okeke C.O. our beloved parish priest came to us to visit our Youth Space bringing with him brand new musical instruments and invited he invited everyone to choose an instrument and have a chance to play while he lovingly and joyfully played alongside us, leading and guiding us. It was such a memorable evening! We sang together, played the drums, flutes/recorders, trumpets and created a joyful noise unto the Lord. There was so much excitement and laughter as everyone enjoyed learning and making music together. Father enjoyed the evening just as much as we did and it was wonderful to see the youth coming together through music.
On Saturday afternoon at 3:00 to 4:00pm we had our first band practice. We had the opportunity to practise with the new instruments and begin learning how to play together as a band.
Later that evening, during Mass, Father commissioned the new Maintenance Team, The Youth Leadership Team and blessed the new instruments. It was a very meaningful moment for all of us as we prepared to use our talents and musical gifts to serve and bring joy to our church community at St Rita's Parish.
Then on Sunday morning during Mass, Father did the same thing. During both masses after being commissioned, the youth had the opportunity to play the instruments during Mass. It was a proud and special moment for everyone, and it was wonderful to see our new band beginning its journey.
This weekend was filled with joy, music, faith and fellowship. We are very excited about what lies ahead and look forward to growing together as a youth band and using our talents to serve God and our church community.
Upcoming Band Practice
There will be band practice this Friday from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. All youth members are encouraged to come and take part!
