“Captain Moodley" is the alias used in a coordinated extortion and impersonation scam targeting local businesses both nationally and on the South Coast.
The fraudsters call demanding donations on behalf of the SAPS.

• Fraudsters phone businesses claiming to be "Captain Moodley" or other officers to collect funds or solicit donations.

• The South African Police Service does not ask for financial details over the phone, nor do they send representatives to collect cash or valuables.

• Be mindful that cyber-criminals can also clone the cell numbers of legitimate officers.

• The latest scam artist is using 060 897 6985 and pretending to be fundraising on behalf of Sweetwaters Church, Winklespruit.

• Verify any suspicious calls from 'police officers' by contacting your local police station directly.

• Report the incident using the Crime Stop number: 08600 10111.

Our monthly prayer meetings held at Amanzimtoti SAPS is one way in which we support our law enforcement, encouraging them in their roles as service members.

It is also where we encourage the community to get involved in meaningful ways that impact the broader community.

New Beginning Retirement Home

Our goal for the day: Spiritual encouragement & an online safety session!

Thank you to our program coordinator Sharon, for doing a stellar job of putting together our most recent outreach.
Debbie West, Chairperson of the Amanzimtoti SAPS Spiritual Network opened the program with an uplifting devotional, encouraging us to be the Network of support for each other!

Our SAPS officers and KZN Department of Community Safety and Liaison officers spoke on reporting procedures, as well as assistance and resources available through the various organizations working in partnership with Amanzimtoti Police Station.

Estelle van Eeden from the Amanzimtoti Community Police Forum and Sparrow Trust presented on current online risks, especially the scams targeting older persons and those deemed more vulnerable because they may be less tech savvy.
