Seventeen of us from Grace Fellowship spent a week at the Boardwalk Chapel being trained in evangelism and putting our training to work for Jesus. Our team loved each other well through hot days, late nights, and little sleep.

One night, some of our group performed a skit called “The Burden.” Jaime desperately tries to get a huge backpack off her back. She calls on the strongest man in the world, a magician, and an escape artist, but none can free her. They run away while Jaime’s friend Beth hands her a Bible. As Jaime reads the Scriptures, Beth helps her remove the burden. Beth then tells the audience, “The burden that most people carry is much heavier than a school backpack. We carry the guilt and shame of sins we have committed. Some turn to things of this world trying to remove this burden. They do not realize that there is a gracious God above who is willing to cleanse us of all our sins. In Ephesians 1:7 it says, ‘In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.’”

Each night we proclaimed this beautiful gospel message through songs like “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us” and “In Christ Alone” while our pastors preached five-minute messages from texts like Isaiah 53 and Romans 6:23.

Our mornings included devotions from “EVANGELISM” by J. Mack Stiles and prayer in small groups. Afternoons were spent training to evangelize and rehearsing for the program.

After each program, we went out in groups of five onto the boardwalk, handing out tracts and inviting folks to join us for a test to see if they would enter heaven.

While most evangelized, a few remained at the Chapel to pray. There is nothing more encouraging when speaking of heaven and hell with unbelievers than knowing you are being supported in prayer!

We had many thoughtful conversations. So many people want to be seen and heard. Others angrily glared at us, while some said they were going to heaven but could not say how they knew. God’s perfect love overcame our fears and moved us to plant gospel seeds, waiting on Him to water them. Our entire team loved our time together at the Chapel.
