Okay... a slight defense of Jacob based on yesterdays exploration... Yes, how Jacob goes about attaining Issac's blessing seems "slimy". But here's a couple of things to further consider: 1. It was not Issac's blessing that Esau was rejecting or being inconsiderate of... it was YHWY's. The blessing was always coming from YHWY and was YHWY's to give. The blessing being rejected was tied to the land (it was always about the land). Esau openly, out rightly, and definitively rejects YHWY's blessing by leaving the "promised" land for the mountainous region we discussed yesterday. 2. Jacob, however "icky" it seems to us, shows one thing; he desperately wants to have the blessing of YHWY through Isaac. Perhaps God knew this would happen and that is why the prophecy about Jacob in the womb. Perhaps as "slimy" as Jacob seemed, it was his desire for YHWY (via the blessing) that YHWY honored and that desire was just enough "raw material" for YHWY to work with.

Just came across this article. A very good tool for exploring our "Jacobness" with our children. Very good questions to ask even for our teen children.
