You don’t have to carry the weight of guilt. You don’t have to try and fix yourself. Jesus has already made a way. All you need to do is cry out like David did, “Have mercy on me, O God.” Let’s do that together this morning.

In the beloved Psalm 23, David paints a beautiful picture of God's intimate care for His people. God is a Good Shepherd who provides for us and protects us, and our souls long to be connected to Him. As vulnerable sheep, we must be careful to remain obedient and rest in His presence.

We’re starting a new sermon series that I believe will meet each of us right where we are—in the joys of life, struggles of life, the questions, and in the quiet moments.

The series is based on the book of Psalms, which is a book unlike any other book in the Bible. Psalm 1 sets the foundation for the entire book of Psalms. It reveals a deep spiritual truth: there are two paths in life—the way of the righteous and the way of the wicked. One leads to blessing, rootedness, and fruitfulness. The other leads to emptiness and destruction.

As we reflect on this psalm, we are challenged to examine where we’re rooted, how we’re being shaped, and what it truly means to flourish in God’s way.

Paul was called to spread the gospel, but he’s not alone in that call. Many unsung heroes of the faith continued the work through the Holy Spirit in succeeding generations, changing the world with a changeless message: Jesus Christ is Savior and Lord of all who call on Him. Today, we can be unsung heroes as we are also all called to spread that same great message!

Overall, the gospel had a great economic impact in Ephesus. And when we seriously follow Christ, our lives should change as well as how we should treat our finances. As your faith deepens, do you spend your money differently? Do you spend less or none at all on the things that don’t honor Christ, and spend more on the things that do?

Are there things in your life that you need to let go of? In some cases, the scrolls we trust or make our source of security, but which we know can’t really provide us with hope or help in the way that Christ can.

Paul was not a parent, in fact he was never married. He even says sometimes that’s best. And for him, it was. Could you imagine how his wife would have stressed and worried about him? But I still picture Paul like a parent to all those people he ministered too. Some would love him for what he did, others not so much. But the way he loved all of God’s people by trying to share with them the greatest gift ever, salvation, puts him in my book as a pretty good parent.

Paul was called and he responded with power and passion and a heart for Christ. As a believer, when you suffer, what’s your response? Singing? Are you more focused on God or on the problem? Maybe you’re suffering right now. How can you use what you are facing for the sake of Jesus Christ? In prison, severely beaten, Paul didn’t have much. So he did what the song “Gratitude” says to do. He threw up his hands and praised God. He worshiped.
