Today we celebrate Juneteenth, a reminder that freedom is worth rejoicing in.

As followers of Jesus, we celebrate when justice comes to those who have been oppressed. Throughout Scripture, we see that God is a God of justice, freedom, and liberation. He hears the cries of the oppressed, defends the vulnerable, and calls His people to love their neighbors well.

Juneteenth marks the day when the news of freedom finally reached those who had been enslaved in Texas. It was the moment when freedom that had already been secured became known and embraced.

That story points us to a deeper truth found in Christ. Jesus came to proclaim freedom to the captives and bring hope to those in need of redemption. Today we celebrate the significance of Juneteenth and the God who values the dignity, worth, and freedom of every person.
