Ecclesiastes 1:9 says, "...there is nothing new under the sun."

What person to ever live has brought true peace to the whole of the world and creation? Where does your hope for that peace lie?

The physical realm is part of the spiritual, not the other way around. Pursue the spiritual and the physical will follow. Don't trade spiritual growth for physical comfort. This is what Paul was trying to teach us.

This is a quote made by Denver Moore from the movie Same Kind of Different As Me. A true story about how God will fill gaps and change lives that we percive as being impossible.

"I used to spend a lotta time worryin that I was different from other people, even from other homeless folks. Then, after I met Miss Debbie and Mr. Ron, I worried that I was so different from them that we wadn't ever gon' have no kind a' future. But I found out everybody's different - the same kind of different as me. We're all just regular folks walkin down the road God done set in front of us. The truth about it is, whether we is rich or poor or somethin in between, this earth ain't no final restin place. So in a way, we is all homeless - just workin our way toward home.

I went to Easter service with my dad and sister today at River City AG in Yankton, SD. I wish I had a before and after picture, but I had no idea of their plans. Very apropos considering the expectations of God's people when the news of the coming Messiah started spreading in the Holy Land.

Settling into the sanctuary, I noticed a painting on an easel at the rear left side of the stage. It was a picture of a sacrificial lamb lying on the ground with a cross on a hill in the distant background.

As the worship music began, an artist stepped onto the stage and began adding to the painting. She worked diligently through the entire service - worship, message and baptisms. It was a beautiful visual transformation, right before our very eyes, of what Jesus did and became from Friday night of Holy Week to Sunday morning.

He really did it. For us. It cost him everything. It should cost us something as well, but he clearly paid the Lion's share. Tetelestai.

I am 100% God dependant.

There is nothing good I think, say, or do that does not come from God. However, because of the Fall and the introduction (and acceptance) of sin in the Garden, ALL of mankind has been afflicted with original sin from that point forward. That means my life is far from 100% good, and it won't be until Jesus comes to take me home. Until then, I am 100% dependant on Him helping me stand in that gap. So ALL of my life, good or bad, is 100% dependant on Jesus. There is no way I will ever sort that out on my own, and believe me, I've tried. That's exactly why He chose to die for me. How much more proof is needed on how deep His love is for us?

John 17:1-5 NIV
[1] After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. [2] For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. [3] Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. [4] I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. [5] And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began."

Letting go of the control we thought we had but actually never did. Man...if we can get ourselves to that spot with a heart posture of trust...FREEDOM. ❤️

“It is the most counterintuitive aspect of Christianity, that we are declared right with God not once we begin to get our act together but once we collapse into honest acknowledgment that we never will.”

This story is a repost just because it is such a beautiful example of who we are called to be as followers of Jesus. Below is a little supportive scripture that speaks to the calling He places on each and every one of us.

Isaiah 66:1-2 NIV
[1] This is what the Lord says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be? [2] Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?” declares the Lord. “These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite (repentant) in spirit, and who tremble at my word."

When we choose to follow Jesus, it means so much more than just confessing with our mouths that we believe in Him and claim Him as our savior. It's a call to humility and self-examination so He can start changing us from the inside out.

Matthew 7:5 NIV
[5] "...first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."

The world tempts us to apply scriptue to others when we ourselves are often not walking in biblical truth.

Matthew 25:34-36 NIV
[34] “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. [35] For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, [36] I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

Truly choosing to follow Jesus is also a call to action. Not based on our works, but based on seeking His will for our lives and then letting Him do His work through us.

If the whole goal of the Christian life was simply to get to heaven, then why don't we go straight there the moment we receive our salvation? Because it heavily implies that the reason we're still here is because we are meant to do something with the incomprehensible gift we have so feeely received.

If we are troubled by what we see happening around us and in the world, we have to start right where we're at. God strategically has us placed exactly where He wants us, and we need to intentionally lean into that. He wants and needs us to go out and make a difference.

Go out and serve. Feed the hungry. Be a friend to a stranger. Visit someone that has had hard times fall on them. Opportunities to serve are in abundance. Ask the Lord where he wants you to go and He'll show you.

If we want to receive what our Servant King promises us, we have to live out what He is teaching us. His yoke IS easy and His burden IS light. He already paid the price in full so we can live in the promise of His hope and joy. ✝️❤️🙏

Oaths. When we feel we have to "swear" on something to another person, it's probably a good indication of something inside of us that hasn't been healed. We know we've done something untrustworthy in the past, so we have to "make our case" to gain someone's trust for something we want from our will do for them. It can also be a form of pre-shaming them if they decide not to be in agreement with us. That all becomes emotional and psychological manipulation rooted in self-benefit. That comes from the dark.

If our hearts are right, it can also be an opportunity to invite someone that has had their trust betrayed to take a scary and uncomfortable step toward trust with you. That's looking outside of ourselves and becoming available to the process of someone else's healing, which leads to healing for us as well. That's The Light that has overcome the darkness.

Whichever side of trust we are on, seeking or extending, James has great advice. Just say "Yes" or "No", and let our future actions define our character, not our past failures.

This is a hard picture to look at...and it should be.

I would invite you to look at it for awhile. Study it. Contemplate it. What does it mean for your life.

Jesus willingly made the ultimate sacrifice for ALL of us, that we might have true freedom. But it can often be hard to see that freedom. We live in a world that has more people in it than ever before. And due to modern technology, those people are more connected than ever before.

What is shaping our worldview...the lense of modern technology or the message that Jesus' life on earth brought us; love God, love eachother, and spread the good news.

Modern technology has the capacity to either focus or distort our worldview lense. There is so much beauty on earth...literally pieces of heaven all around us. But there are also deep roots of distortion and division. We have the choice to choose which lense we look through.

Unfortunately, both of those worldviews often collide and are intermingled. Scriptural messages are twisted to validate political viewpoints, justify our feelings in relationship challenges, or staying stuck in personal struggles we know aren't in our best interest.

The answer is to lay it all at the foot of the cross. All of our hurts, shortcomings, worry. Our anger at the injustices we perceive happening all around us. Jesus laid down His life to take every bit of that off of our shoulders. That's where true peace is available. By seeing His view of the world through God's word, not the world's view of the world through a screen.
