Construction is slated to begin this week on an access road and a small parking area to connect Morgan Chapel’s existing parking lot with new community gardens to be built on the vacant field just north of the church buildings along Woodbine Road.

When complete, the gardens will include space for local residents to have their own garden plot, an area for Master Gardeners to teach children and adults how to grow vegetables and flowers, an "edible hedge" of fruit-bearing bushes along Woodbine Road, pathways through pollinator plantings and a gathering place with ADA-accessible picnic tables and benches. A pick-ur-own sunflower field is also anticipated as early as next year.

Planning assistance and initial funding for the gardens has come from the Maryland Food Bank, a Peace With Justice grant from the Baltimore-Washington Conference of The United Methodist Church and CitizensHKS, the nonprofit support division of HKS, the global architectural company that is currently designing the new Commanders stadium in Washington.

The food pantry has a critical need for healthy snacks that can be used for our children's bags that we distribute each week. Some of the items the pantry needs include individual fruit cups, fruit snacks, individual cereal cups, cheese/peanut butter crackers, pretzels, popcorn, etc. Donations may be left at any time in the donations closet behind the church (6750 Woodbine Rd, Woodbine.) We distributed a record of more than 100 bags on Saturday as the number of neighbors served by the weekly pantry continues to grow.
