Today is the first day of Pride month. As the proud rabbi of Congregation Etz Chaim, in Wilton Manors, Florida, this is one of my favorite times of the year. I grew up surrounded by rainbows - not because of Pride, but because I just love color. There was a rainbow that my parents painted on my wall, and I truly believe that there isn't enough sparkle in the world. And I believe in love, and that all love is beautiful. As a profound supporter, partner and ally to the LGBTQ community, a community that I deeply love, I feel my commitment to my synagogue even stronger. It is up to all of us to take pride, not just in ourselves, but in each other. Step up! Have Pride! And let the world see that Love is Kosher and a VERY strong Jewish value!

Inaugural "Drop-In Shabbat." We didn't really plan it, it kind of came together organically, but we will start doing this regularly throughout the year. Tonight we are at Sardi Peruvian restaurant on Wilton Drive.

If you are Jewish, Jewish-partnered, or curious about Judaism, live in South Florida and are looking for a Synagogue that CELEBRATES who you are, then Congregation Etz Chaim, an LGBTQ-founded congregation, is the place for you! For half a century, we have provided a Jewish Home for people of ALL sexual identities, races and genders, and a joyful, spiritual, proud Jewish community. We are your Spiritual Center of Gravity!

Of all the verses of Parshah Nasso, the Priestly Benediction is the most famous. This week, we dive deeply into the meaning of the Birkat Kohanim and explore how we live it’s holiness through our Judaism. Please join our musical Shabbat Torah Service this Friday, May 29, 2026, at 7:30pm, in Auditorium B of the Pride Center in Wilton Manors, FL. Service is followed by our delicious Oneg Shabbat. Today is the day we celebrate receiving the Torah on Mount Sinai. The word Yisrael appears over 2,200 times in the Tanach, the Hebrew Bible. It is a person, a people, a nation and a place. As we celebrate receiving our precious Torah, we are forced to look around at the world today and realize that there are people who are demanding that we not be who we are - Jews. But today, we gather, pray and, once again, receive the Torah by our own commitment and our own choice. Last week, we learned that Judaism is something we choose every day. Today, we make that choice again, by accepting Torah, by fighting back against antisemitism and hatred, and by being who we are. We are UNAPOLOGETIC JEWS, of all different colors, nationalities, sexual orientations, identities, and communities. And we come together as one people - especially today. Chag Shavuot Sameach and Shabbat Shalom!

This past weekend, Congregation Etz Chaim was proud to host a full weekend Shabbaton in honor of Rabbi Marcia's ordination and installation. We hosted 70+ folks at Friday night services, 40 at our Shabbat morning class, and upwards of 150 people at our "Joe Buchanan Live!" concert and silent auction on Saturday night. Four people bid on and won brunch with Joe on Sunday morning, and the weekend was an incredible example of community coming together to support our synagogue and greater Jewish life in Broward County. Some pictures and video are included, and because of the incredible support, we earned enough YouTube subscribers to now stream live on YouTube, as well as Facebook, every Friday night. The weekend was filled with love, light, spirituality and joy. If you weren't there, please visit our live video from May 15 to watch the service! Kol Hakavod, Etz Chaim. And now, we GROW!!
