St. Mark Cathedral Celebrates the Life and Legacy of Our Beloved, the Late Bishop Mark L. Gilkey! 💜

*May 23, 1959 – August 19, 2025*

What a life. What a leader. What a legacy!

We remember him by these words — words he lived, preached, and left ringing in our ears: "Keep your heart right.”

That was more than a saying. That was a standard. In every season, in every trial, in every triumph, Bishop Gilkey pointed us back to the one thing that matters most — a right heart before God.

Scripture calls a man like that a shepherd who feeds, guides, and protects the flock. That was our Bishop. He fed us when we were hungry for direction. He guided us with joy. He loved us like a father, and he believed in us even when we didn't believe in ourselves.

And what a joy it is to say — the path was already paved. We continue on the road he and the late Bishop J. C. Gilkey forged by faith. Father and son. Two generations of faithfulness. One unshakable foundation. 🙌🏾

As we look around we continue witness the harvest — sons and daughters in ministry, leaders raised up, believers standing strong, families made whole. That is legacy!

We celebrate today. We give God glory today. And we walk forward in the faith they handed us — hearts right, heads up, hope alive. 🕊️

The legacy lives on!
