Ridgepoint Church

Ridgepoint Church We exist to help people find & follow Jesus. We aim to be real people with a real faith making a real impact. Our teaching is relevant and Biblically grounded.

We are a part of a network of Mennonite Brethren churches across the country and around the world. MBs are Christians who have roots in the "anabaptist" movement during the Reformation, and we have a rich history or striving to live in a way that aligns with the Bible. When you visit us, you will find a friendly environment where all are welcome. We place a high value on serving others, and we're

doing our best to live out God's values within the current culture of Wichita. You can find a list of our specific beliefs here: https://ridgepointwichita.com/what-we-believe

Beyond that, we'd love to get to know YOU. Stop by any Sunday morning, or learn more about us by browsing our website (http://ridgepointwichita.com). We can't wait to walk alongside YOU in your relationship with God!

This week on Trending, Matt and Pastor Joe dive into a conversation about communion—what it is, why different traditions approach it differently, and how it shapes our faith. Sparked by a recent Church of England decision to restrict gluten-free bread and non-alcoholic wine, they explore the history and theology behind the Lord’s Supper, from transubstantiation to memorial remembrance.

Should communion be an open table for all, or reserved for certain believers? How often should we take it? And does it HAVE to be bread and wine, or could Mountain Dew and Doritos count? Matt and Joe tackle these questions with a challenge to see communion as more than just a ritual—but a powerful act of unity and grace.

"Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no grain. [...] They are those who hear the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful." Mark 4:7, 18-19

Don't limit the hard soil to all of the "bad people" out there. On some days, all of us have a hard heart in some area. Receive the word with a soft heart.

On Sunday, Pastor Brent explored the Parable of the Sower from Mark 4 explaining how the four different types of soil (hard, rocky, thorny, and good) represent different ways people's hearts receive God's Word. Brent emphasized that while Christians and non-Christians alike can have any type of "soil," achieving "good soil" requires both honest self-examination and God's help to produce spiritual fruit.

This week on Trending, Matt and Pastor Joe take a break from the trending headlines to dive into an important topic: the Bible. Many of us have read Scripture for years, but how can we keep this ancient text alive in our current context without losing its original meaning? Pastor Joe shares insights on the original Greek and Hebrew, why biblical scholarship continues to change, and how modern tools can help us gain a deeper understanding of God’s Word.

In our services yesterday, Pastor Brent explored the tension between following rules literally (the letter of the law) and understanding their deeper purpose (the spirit of the law). While rules are important for society and relationships, we must be cautious about adding our own interpretations to scripture and remember to prioritize kindness and understanding.

If you weren't able to attend or watch with us yesterday, we encourage you to check it out online this week!

These weeks on Sunday mornings we're taking a closer look at the teachings of Jesus from the gospel of Mark. And even if you've heard these stories several times before, there is still so much to learn! Tomorrow morning Pastor Brent will share from Mark 2-3. The gist: Jesus came to set you free from the legalism of the law, and that is really good news!

We'd love to have YOU with us, so we hope to see you soon!

Our Story

Our full name is First Mennonite Brethren Church, but our friends call us First MB. We are a part of a network of Mennonite Brethren churches across the country and around the world. MBs are Christians who have roots in the "anabaptist" movement during the Reformation, and we have a rich history or striving to live in a way that aligns with the Bible. When you visit us, you will NOT find people who appear even vaguely Amish! You WILL find a friendly environment where all are welcome. Our teaching is relevant and Biblically grounded. We place a high value on serving others, and we're doing our best to live out God's values within the current culture of Wichita. You can find a list of our specific beliefs here: http://firstmbchurch.org/what-we-believe We believe First MB Church exists to help people find and follow Jesus. We do that through the lens of our value statement: We aim to be real people with a real faith making a real impact. Beyond that, we'd love to get to know YOU. Stop by any Sunday morning, or learn more about us by browsing our website (http://firstmbchurch.org) or checking out our recent Facebook activity. We believe all people matter, and can't wait to walk alongside YOU in your relationship with God.
