Reconstructing Judaism is a progressive, egalitarian, inclusive movement that makes Judaism relevant to contemporary life while honoring Jewish tradition. Shir Hadash Synagogue is a creative Reconstructionist congregation led by Rabbi Eitan Weiner-Kaplow that has served the Jewish community in the north and northwest suburbs of Chicago since 1995. We welcome singles, couples, and all family conste

llations, including Interfaith and LGBT families. As reflected by our motto—Community, Creativity, and Caring—we celebrate our Jewish faith through creative worship, social action, music, arts, dance, and drama. We offer a wonderful one day a week religious school that meets on Sundays, dynamic bar mitzvah and bat mitzvah services, teen program, adult programming, and much more.

The service was lively and musical, with high energy as our Lahaka choir filled the sanctuary with topical tunes. Special guest (and rabbinical student) David Feinberg serenaded the congregation with a selection of beloved camp songs. We were especially delighted to welcome Alex as the newest member of Lahaka.

Due to overwhelming demand and support, our monthly Crafting and Camaraderie get-togethers will continue! We’ve had an incredible turnout during our trial run, and everyone agrees it’s been fun and worthwhile! Thanks to Lise for putting her idea into motion. Our next gathering is Wednesday, June 24 at 7 pm in the Shir Hadash kitchen. Bring your favorite project and let’s schmooze!
