What a night! ☦️ With nearly 200 Orthodox faithful in attendance across 7 different parishes in the Greater Austin area, we all soaked in His Grace Bishop Serafim’s talk and contemplation on discernment as it relates to being an Orthodox Christian in our modern day and age.

Thank you, Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, for hosting this OYM-sponsored event. The Pan-Orthodox scene certainly showed up for an edifying night of fellowship & deep conversation! 🙏

More to come in the future!

Today, the Church commemorates St. Phanourios, whose memory was miraculously revealed in Rhodes when an ancient church and icon were uncovered.

The name Phanourios comes from the Greek verb phanerono (φανερώνω), which means “to reveal” or “to reveal that which was lost.” Because of this, St. Phanourios is revered as the patron saint of lost things… not just material items, but lost paths, hope, and clarity of faith.

According to Orthodox tradition, we bake a Phanouropita (St. Phanourios cake) for his feast day, offering it in gratitude for his intercessions.

Holy Great-Martyr Phanourios intercede for us!

When Cyprian tried everything to break Justina’s faith, he realized his demons were terrified of the cross. That realization changed his life forever, leading him to burn fortune-worths of occult books and stand beside Justina in faith.

Saint John the Forerunner didn’t compromise to protect his position or his life. He called out corruption, spoke truth to power, and stood firm in a world that wanted him silenced. Even from a prison cell, his voice echoed with unwavering faith.

As we remember the Beheading of the Holy Glorious Prophet, Forerunner, and Baptist John, we reflect on what it means to carry an unyielding commitment to Christ. True strength isn't measured by comfort or safety, it’s forged in the courage to stand for righteousness no matter the cost.

“In birth, you preserved your virginity; in death, you did not abandon the world, O Theotokos.”

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos. In this sacred icon, Christ stands in glory, receiving into His hands the pure soul of His Mother, represented as a swaddled child, taking her to eternal life.

May the holy intercessions of the Mother of God protect and guide us all. Blessed Feast! Most Holy Theotokos, save us!
