OBITUARY
Dave Christian Critzer (Butch)
June 17, 1948 – April 20, 2026

IN THE CARE OF
Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes & Crematory

Dave Christian “Butch” Critzer, 77, of Waynesboro passed away on Monday, April 20, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born June 17, 1948 in Charlottesville, VA, he was the son of the late David Norwood and Effie May (Fox) Critzer. On July 24, 1971 he married Penelope Ann Peyton. The two shared 55 wonderful years of marriage together.

Prior to retirement, Butch owned and operated Sundown Siding for over 25 years. He honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970, including two tours in Vietnam, and was proud to be a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. A man of faith, Butch was active in both Rodes United Methodist Church and West Waynesboro Church of Christ. He loved the outdoors—fishing, hunting, golfing, and traveling, especially to the Smoky Mountains and along the East Coast—but his greatest joy was spending time with his two grandsons. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of service, faith, and boundless love for family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and best friend, Vivian Peyton.

Survivors include his loving wife, Penny Critzer of Waynesboro; son, Christian Critzer and wife, Jennifer, of Staunton; grandsons, Logan and Greyson Critzer; sisters, Darlene Morris and husband, Dan, of Albemarle County, VA and Dinah Small and husband, Rudy, of Nellysford; sister-in-law, Bobbi Jo Brown and husband, Bill, of Danville, VA; nieces and nephews, Emily Marshall and husband, Wes, Jacob Brown, Eli Brown, Allan Morris and family, David Morris and wife, Becca and family, and Jaime Small and finance, Garrett Gupton; great-nephew, Liam Marshall; great-niece, Winnie Marshall; and a number of cousins and extended family members.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026 in the social hall of Rodes United Methodist Church, 286 Avon Road, Afton.

Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of the church with Rev. Scott A. Robertson-Gouge officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Logan Critzer, Greyson Critzer, Bill Brown, Jacob Brown, Eli Brown, Wes Marshall, and Ian Brown.
