The Practice of Praying
"He said to them, 'When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.'"
Luke 11:2-4
"Without knowledge of self, there is no knowledge of God. Our wisdom, insofar as it ought to be deemed true and solid wisdom, consists almost entirely of two parts: the knowledge of God and of ourselves. But as these are connected by many ties, it is not easy to determine which of the two precedes and gives birth to the other."
- John Calvin
Prayer is a conversation with God; to pray is to listen to God as God listens to you. This is a conversation that God has been having with humanity for generations, and in the next few weeks we will explore the ways Christians have been present with God - joining the conversation with creation that the Creator initiated.
