My Soul-Traveling Methodist Mother Gets Good News

In the twenty-five years since I first introduced my mother to the teachings of Eckankar, she's never expressed much interest. So, I was surprised one day when she mentioned that she had begun singing HU, the ancient name for God, in her own Methodist church.

She also confided that she had had trouble sleeping the night before. "So, I decided to do my Eckankar Soul Travel," she said.

"You did?" I asked in amazement.

"What did you do?" My mother smiled. "I lay down on the bed, relaxed my mind, and sang HU. Soon I found myself drifting off into the clouds. I was just floating along, enjoying myself, when out of the clouds came a baby's foot! And you know, somehow I knew right away Alissa was pregnant." Alissa was her granddaughter.

Two days later, Alissa called my mom.

"Hi, kid," my mother said. "Whatcha got cooking?" Grandma, how did you know?" exclaimed Alissa. It was true! Alissa was indeed expecting a baby the following January.

That day I realized each Soul is making its spiritual journey in its own way.
My mother, a Methodist, was enjoying the benefits of singing HU. In her own way she was opening to the daily wonder of God's love for Soul.
