Samson died because of his own sin. And because of our sin, we deserve to be crushed right alongside him—another casualty in the crowd. But Jesus died without sin, for sinners like you and me, that he might bring us deliverance, even through death. Through his death, he defeated not just 3,000 Philistines but all our enemies—sin, the devil, and death itself. And his dying prayer was not “Let me die,” but “It is finished."

And while Samson’s story ends with his family carrying his body away and burying him in the tomb of his father, no tomb could contain the Son of God. Jesus was buried, but on the third day, he rose again, ascended into heaven, and sits now at the right hand of the Father, interceding for us.

So when your sin has done its worst, when you’ve returned again to the same sin and you can’t shake yourself free, cry out to the Lord. After everything Samson did, the Lord still heard him. And because of what Christ has done, you can know that he will hear you, too. Cry out to the Lord, who, despite our sin, brings deliverance, even through death.
