Valencia Presbyterian Church is tucked away in the small, quaint borough of Valencia, Pennsylvania. Our church is small enough to feel intimate and warm, but large enough to provide a number of programs and opportunities for ministry to help both children and adults to love and serve Christ. We strive to recognize and nurture the Christ in ourselves and each person that we encounter along the way. VPC has a long tradition of outreach and service to its members and the community. Our vision is to grow the body of Christ through faith, love and service. We hope you will join us for worship to experience for yourself the fellowship of Christ. This week we celebrate All Saints Day; a day to remember that the message of Salvation is for all who call upon the name of Jesus and a day to remember those we have lost through death in the past year. We will publicly remember their names, trusting that the mercy of the Holy Spirit comforts those who have been left behind as well as assures for them the salvation that they were given through Jesus Christ’s Life, Death, Resurrection, and Ascension. We will meet the Roman Centurion, Cornelius, in Acts 10 and see how this story is the transformational beginning of our own stories of salvation and hope. As you prepare for worship this week, you are invited to bring the names of friends and family who have died in the last year where we will have a special time of prayer to name them publicly and remember them. Have you ever packed up your home to move? Some items fit relatively easily into a moving box - books, pasta boxes, LEGO’s, clothing and shoes - all of these items fit pretty easily into the boxes to move. But other things, well, we have a little more trouble with them. Our faith can be a little like this too. Jesus’ teachings about kindness, doing unto others as we would have done unto ourselves, forgiving one another…those fit pretty neatly into our “faith box” of how to be a “good person”. But miracles? Those can be more like Grandma’s lamp or Aunt Mary’s grandfather clock: fragile, odd-shaped, and difficult to understand how we can package them in a way that fits into the truck. This week we will look at two miracles: the healing of Aeneas and the resurrection of Tabitha from the dead. These short stories challenge our understanding or what is possible, offer a tangible witness of hope for hurting people, and provide an important witness about the Ministry of Reconciliation. We have not reached the “beginning of the end” but we have certainly reached the “end of the beginning”. Accordingly, it is good for us to review three big themes that have emerged so far: 1) Jesus is for Anybody. 2) Taking Teachings Seriously. 3) God Prioritizes Unity. Through Barnabas’s advocacy, we will see Jesus bring Saul into the Jerusalem community; observe the way his “retreat” to Tarsus takes Jesus’s own practices seriously, and finally see how the desire for unity shapes the coming chapters of Acts. The supporting characters of the Bible are fascinating. One of the many things that we are learning about Acts is the way that the Holy Spirit can move and inspire the actions of any Disciple. This week, we meet a disciple from Damascus, Ananais (same name, different guy from chapter 5!). Ananais hears a call from the Lord and responds “Here I am!” and yet, the call the Lord has given him is a fearsome one: Go and minister to Saul. This week we will look closely at how Ananais overcomes his fear, the embodiment of “loving your enemy” and how our own fears need-not overwhelm our faith. This week we make a major transition in our study of Acts. With the start of Chapter 9, we return to the character, Saul, and his violent purges in Jerusalem as he begins to move on to other cities. We will explore Saul’s blindness and the ways that it affected him, spend time on the motif of blindness and sight that occurs throughout Acts and Luke, and dive into the ways that we experience spiritual blindness just as Saul did. How was Jesus described to you the first time you heard about him? Were you introduced to him as the baby born on Christmas, the Emmanuel? Did you meet him as Lord and Savior on Easter or as the servant-king of Palm Sunday? Or, perhaps your first introduction to him was as the one who welcomed little children to come into His presence to learn, telling us that even the adults needed to model themselves after a childlike faith. How we are introduced to Jesus has a profound effect on the formation of our faith. In this Sunday’s passage we will meet an unnamed official who has traveled a long way from home to make a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, and look deeply at the way Philip introduces him to Jesus through the words of the prophet Isaiah. What does it mean for this man that the Jesus he first meets is the suffering servant of Isaiah 53? What should we take away from the encounter between Philip and this Ethiopian official? And, what sort of impact should this have on our own practices of telling others about who Jesus is?

Valencia Presbyterian Church is seeking a part-time Financial Administrator to help manage the church’s financial and accounting responsibilities and support the responsible stewardship of church resources.

POSITION DETAILS:
📅 Start: Immediate / Upon Hire
💰 Pay: Based on Experience
⏰ Schedule: Flexible Schedule / Approx. 25 hours per month
📍 Location: In-person, on-site

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Accounting experience
• Experience with computer-based financial applications
• QuickBooks experience preferred
• Familiarity with the Presbyterian Church preferred
• Strong attention to detail and confidentiality
• Required background checks and clearances

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: maintaining financial records, processing contributions and deposits, preparing payments and reports, reconciling accounts, and assisting with annual financial and tax reporting.

Valencia Presbyterian Church is seeking a caring, dependable, and nurturing Nursery Assistant to care for children from newborn through 5 years old in a safe and loving environment.

POSITION DETAILS:
📅 Start Date: Immediate / Upon Hire
💰 Pay Rate: Competitive / Based on Experience
⏰ Schedule: Sunday mornings (9:30-11:30am)
Wednesday evenings (5:30-8:30pm)
Occasional special services and events

REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be 21 years of age or older
• Provide child abuse and criminal background clearances
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

Have you ever been surprised to hear that someone you know has become a Christian? As the disciples scattered after the murder of Stephen, one disciple, Philip, makes his way to Samaria. In Samaria, Philip proclaims the good news and meets a surprising individual, Simon who is called a magician. Simon was a well-known character who had quite a following. Yet, his curiosity about Philip’s message ends up changing him. We will explore how Simon’s life changed, why that change had to have consequences, and what guidance that offers for us today. Join us Sunday at 10am, either in-person or on our YouTube channel ().

🎒 DON’T FORGET YOUR BACKPACK! 🎒 Kids, bring your backpacks with you to church this Sunday! We’ll be having a special Blessing of the Backpacks as we pray for all of our students, teachers, and school staff as they begin a new school year. Bring your backpack — and bring a friend!
