We are a people who worship together, creating an atmosphere where family and friends can gather to Join us for worship Sundays at 10:30am in person or on Zoom.

Accepting the invitation to God’s banquet means we do the work of the kingdom-
feed the hungry,
clothe the naked,
care for the sick and imprisoned,
all those things Jesus has been doing throughout his public ministry and will explicitly name in just a few chapters.

This is NOT a “be good, do good, get your reward in heaven” sort of scheme.

God invites and gathers you, me, evvvveryone into the reign of heaven.
You, me, we stay in by doing the work of the kingdom,
being obedient to God,
participating in the life of the church,
and living as one saved by God’s grace.

God has given us stewardship of the earth,
the Divine Realm in the here and now.

We have responsibility for all living things:
watering, feeding, sheltering, …
all those things that in just a few chapters Jesus will say, “what you have done for the least among us, you have done for me.”

"And that brings us back to our own relationships with Jesus,
how we understand and experience him in our own lives.
Some days, some moments- we take his presence for granted, like breathing;
he’s t/here and we breathe without any thought.
Other moments- we’re conscious of his presence like a sharp pain telling us 'enough' or 'rest a bit.'"

"The Holy One is even there along the way to take compassion upon us,
to stop and provide comfort and healing
in the midst of their own grief.

We doubt and question,
have “little faith,”
because we’re human.

But we are still loved beyond measure by our God who

reaches out and saves."

"Lots of people try to explain the miracles of Jesus,
particularly this one.
I think because this one is such a uniquely … ordinary miracle.
It’s not a sudden healing of a skin disease,
or being able to walk after years of being confined to a mat.
It’s not a raising anyone from the dead.

[...]

This catering miracle is more than just everyone being fed,
everyone being welcome and included at the table.

The miracle is also a call to feed.
When they left,
hearts and stomachs full,
that wasn’t the end.

They were sent to feed their neighbors."

"This kind of generational, ongoing, and political trauma is completely overlooked by Luther when he says the excrement that he does,
and in fact, perpetuates negative stereotypes and dehumanizes a people.
[...]
The systematic valuation of certain lives over others/
the systematic devaluation of certain lives under others
is not just biblical and historical;
it is present now, and woven into our national founding.
[...]
But as faithful people studying scripture,
endeavoring to follow the will of God,
seeing the divine imprint in each person,
how do we grapple with our various valuations of people based on their positions of power?"

"Fry remarks that 'Sometimes, prioritizing others’ needs pushes fawner to ‘behave outside [their] value system.’ Fawning often requires hiding, shapeshifting, and lying.'
Esther is an expert fawner.
She is a people-pleaser and takes on a helpful persona because she needs to in order to survive.

Because of this, do we really know Esther?

Fry also says,
'Having suffered and experienced trauma does not automatically make one more morally righteous than others. Victims can also be perpetrators. Accountability, even if one is experiencing a trauma response, must always be on the table.'

A trauma-informed lens reveals Esther to be a victim, a victor, and even a villain."

"[The Bible] is full of the stories of our neighbors now,
and we, as God’s children, are called to this time and place to say, “no;”
to end these cycles of abuse and exploitation;
to hold those in power accountable for the well-being, the life and liberty, of all those under their authority, the whole community of earth."

How are we like Queen Vashti-
with fragile privilege?
risking our safety and well-being?
acting with courage?

Vashti is the queen who stands up to unchecked power and says, “no.”
We are called and sent to do the same.

"In our baptisms we are joined with Christ in life and death and new life,
to follow and imitate his ways of truth and life,
of peace and justice for all.
We are called and set free in the washing of the water to be God’s people,
to be the image and being of God to our neighbors.

We are set free to serve in love."
