Family Worship Center was founded on August 19, 2001 in the home of Pastor Roger and Lady Senikha Ball at 440-04 North Broadway in Yonkers, NY. After hosting services in homes for a few months, the congregation moved to the Yonkers YMCA on Riverdale Avenue. In October of 2002, Family Worship Center moved once again to the Foxfire Auditorium, 1061 North Broadway in Yonkers, within a Yonkers Public
School. While at this new location, the ministry experienced incremental growth and eventually had a regular attendance of over 40-50 people per week for their Sunday services. As the congregation increased, Pastor Ball and the senior leadership began to take a scope of where the majority of the members were coming from and it was clear that the Bronx was home for most. After prayerful deliberation and consultation with the leadership and membership of the congregation, the decision was made to relocate the church from Yonkers to the Bronx in February of 2007. While this move was a major undertaking and left room for much uncertainty, the doubling of the attendance the first Sunday alone was encouragement and confirmation that this was the right move for the growing congregation. While in this new location, Family Worship Center enhanced their ministries to not only meet the needs of mature men and women, but also to young adults and children. In addition, the church implemented several community programs to meet the needs of the vast number of people in the local community. These programs included an after-school program, a weekly food pantry and soup kitchen, and an annual coat drive. While the after-school program is on hold for now, hundreds of members of the community have reaped the benefits of the churchโs food pantry and soup kitchen outreach programs. In September 2010, a fire at a business below disrupted Family Worship Centerโs ability to worship in their location at 701 East 212th Street. Refuge was quickly found in their current location at 3323 White Plains Road. The church now hosts their community outreach and other special programs at the 212th location, and has their main services at the White Plains Road location. The congregation continues to grow with an average weekly attendance of 75-100. By: Senikha J. Ball
