LUNCH IN THE SUKKAH!

Sukkot is the last of the three pilgrimage festivals. Like Passover, and Shavuot, Sukkot has a dual significance: historical and agricultural. Historically, Sukkot commemorates the forty-year period during which the children of Israel were wandering in the desert, living in temporary shelters.

Come join your Riverdale Temple friends and family for lunch on Saturday, September 26 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm in our Sukkah, and fulfill your Mitzvah for Sukkot.

WRJ BOOK CLUB!

Dear Friends,

Thank you for the good turnout for our August discussion. Next up is a rather long (459 pages) book by Molly Crabapple called HERE WHERE WE LIVE IS OUR COUNTRY: The Story of the Jewish Bund.

Once the most influential Jewish political force in eastern Europe, the Bund was secular, socialist, and anti-Zionist. The Bundists fought for dignity and equality, not in an imagined homeland in Palestine but “here where we live.”

In the first popular history of the Bund, Crabapple re-creates their extraordinary world through dramatic portraits of insurgent poets and antireligious rebels, clandestine revolutionaries and lovers on the barricades.

“Molly Crabapple’s terrific Here Where We Live is Our Country unearths the story of a Jewish political movement that opposed ethnic nationalism of all stripes . . . thrillingly energetic . . . delightful . . . vivid.”

— The New York Times Book Review

I look forward to a lively discussion on Wednesday, October 7 at 7:30 pm on Zoom.

L’shanah tova,
Ronni
