At tonight's Shabbat Evening Service at 8:00 pm, we will bid farewell to longtime Temple Emeth member Carlene Fleishman, who will relocate to Chicago next week. The service will include a tribute video and a blessing for Carlene at this transition. We will enjoy a festive Oneg and have the opportunity to sign an autograph book for her to take with her.

On Saturday morning at 10:30 am, our Shabbat Morning Service will begin in the Sanctuary. Amanda Eastman will be our cantorial soloist, and Rabbi Steven Sirbu will chant from Parashat Vayera.

Join Temple Emeth for the B’Yachad Breakfast Presentation "Hollywood and the Holocaust," with Professor Foster Hirsch on Sunday, November 1from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. In the 1950s and 1960s, Hollywood producers entered a gentleman’s agreement to avoid making films about Jewish subjects — in particular the Holocaust. The recent historical tragedy of unimaginable proportions was deemed to be beyond representation. It wasn’t until "Schindler's List" in 1993 that the subject was dramatized directly and graphically. Nonetheless, occasional films during the postwar era approached the Holocaust and the Final Solution with varying degrees of candor. In his presentation, Foster Hirsch will discuss "The Juggler" (1952), "The Young Lions" (1958), "The Diary of Anne Frank" (1959), and "The Pawnbroker" (1965).

Full brunch is included. $10 pre-paid by Wednesday, October 28th; $15 at the door. Register online at https://www.emeth.org/event/hollywoodandholocaust.

Temple Emeth has long been committed to the arts, and our Experiential Museum is central to that commitment. This Shabbat provides another example as to why. Tonight at 8:00 pm, our guest speaker at services will be artist Carol Hamoy, whose exhibition entitled, "Alternative Histories," is now on display in the Museum. The works are made primarily of lace, clothing, and other fabric. The service will be followed by a reception at the Oneg Shabbat during which the artist will answer questions about her art.

Our Shabbat Morning Service begins on Saturday at 10:30 am in the Sanctuary. Rabbi Sirbu will chant from Parashat Lech-Lecha, and we will hear an alternative Haftarah portion, entitled "Traveler's Prayer," by Rabbi Sheila Peltz Weinberg.
