If you never hear anything we tell you, if you never hear anything any preacher ever tells you in your entire life, hear this: GOD loves you - not just you in general, not just you as a whole, you specifically, you individually - you. The story of Christianity is not man’s search for GOD, but GOD’s search for man. It’s not about humanity’s attempt to reach GOD through sacrifice or ritual, through law or deed. The story of Christianity is fundamentally a story of GOD stepping down into time, living a human life, enduring all the stuff which makes up the ups and downs of a human life – working until his hands were blistered and raw, facing loss and dealing heartache – ultimately leading to a humiliating death, nailed to a board. In that beautiful, terrible, wonderful, horrific moment, He stood in our place. He took our sin and our shame upon His back. And by His grace, by His death, we are washed clean and made new. Salvation is not something we earn or achieve; a reward for some deed done, but a gift received by placing our trust in what was done on our behalf, by that man nailed to a board. Please don’t buy into the nonsense that Christianity is all about shame. Everything you’re ashamed of – He already knows and loves you enough bear it all, that you may be set right. And in Christ, we are set free from our shame and made right before GOD. In Christ there is no need to hide. In Christ there is mercy, and healing, and forgiveness. We hope to see you at church. But more than that, we hope that you know that GOD loves you: you specifically, you individually. He loves you enough to die that you may be made whole. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

🕊️ Remembering Our Saints 🕊️

This week, we remember the saints who have gone before us—the people who faithfully served God, loved their neighbors, and shared their prayers, presence, gifts, and service with the Church and the world around them.

We remember their contributions, the ways their lives served as a witness to God’s love, and all the ways they got it right. We remember with love, we grieve their absence, and we celebrate the gift of having known them.

As we honor them, may we be inspired to share love, laughter, and grace as they shared. Let the ways we live, serve, and care for others be a tribute to them and an offering to our Lord and Savior.

🌿 Mid-Week Ponder 🌿

How many of us remember being little and getting hurt? There was something special about a mother’s kiss that seemed to make everything feel a little better. ❤️

A gentle touch, a loving embrace, a few reassuring words…sometimes, those simple acts of love were exactly what we needed.

This week, as we read from Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians, we are reminded of the power of gentleness. Paul describes his care for the people as being like a mother tenderly caring for her children.

A mother’s love can be fierce when it needs to be, but at its heart, it is rooted in love. It comforts, encourages, protects, and nurtures.

What if we offered that same kind of gentleness to the people around us? A little patience, a kind word, or simply being present might be just what someone needs to help them through a difficult day.

This week, let’s ponder: How can we offer the gentle love of Christ to someone who needs it?

Join us this Sunday as we dive deeper into Paul’s message to the Thessalonians and discover what it means to care for one another with a mother’s tender love.

🎶 The Sound of Music and Changing God’s Mind 🎶

The Sound of Music is a popular musical about the von Trapp family. As the father, Captain von Trapp is aloof and very strict with his seven children. When Maria arrives on the scene as the children’s nanny, she immediately begins to challenge the Captain.

After a series of events and happenings, Maria slowly begins to change the Captain’s mind. Eventually, the Captain softens as he sees the children through Maria’s eyes. He begins to engage with his children in a more positive and affirming way, and the family dynamic and his relationship with Maria change for the better.

Sometimes it takes a bold move by the underdog to set the situation right.

That is a challenging concept when we think about Moses changing God’s mind. Doesn’t always fit with our idea of God…and yet, here we are…

This is the table of a woman who had severe damage to her home from the effects of Hurricane Rita in 2005. In 2020, this table, along with the house, were completely destroyed in Hurricane Laura.

Around this table, people lingered, they stayed, they shared their life. Around this table, there was spirituality, history, story telling, eating, laughter and love. There was acceptance. People (it didn't seem to matter who you were) were always invited to sit here. Family, friends, and even strangers spent countless hours around this table. And if you sat there... you would always be fed a most fabulous cajun meal, prepared lovingly by Southwest Louisina's Best Cook! At this table, you were cherished, loved and encouraged to have faith, to love God, to live well, and shrug off the small stuff and enjoy the present. It was a table that you didn't want to get up from...

Shouldn't all tables be like this one...

This Sunday is World Wide Communion. Christ offers us a table where we all belong and are loved. In the United Methodist Church, we celebrate an open table. You do not have to be United Methodist to come to the table...All are invited to share, to be nourished, to be loved and to be welcomed at Christ's Table.
