Today, we celebrate Trinity Sunday, a special day in the Christian year when we reflect on the mystery of God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — three persons, one divine essence. Unlike other feast days that mark historical events, Trinity Sunday invites us to contemplate the very nature of God: the Creator, the Savior, and the Comforter who guides us still.

Trinity Sunday also marks the beginning of the long season after Pentecost, often called Ordinary Time or the Trinity Season, when we live out our faith in the rhythms of daily life. Churches around the world will lift their voices in Trinitarian hymns like “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty,” and affirm the faith passed down through the centuries.

As we gather, may we be reminded that the Trinity is an eternal community of love — and we are invited to share in that love each day.

Thursday Thoughts from Pastor Bob: Season of Pentecost - God’s Grandeur by Gerard Manley Hopkins (844-1889) He was an English poet and Jesuit priest, whose work places him among the leading English poets

THE WORLD is charged with the grandeur of God.
It will flame out, like shining from shook foil;
It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil
Crushed. Why do men then now not reck his rod?
Generations have trod, have trod, have trod;
And all is seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil;
And wears man’s smudge and shares man’s smell: the soil
Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod.
And for all this, nature is never spent;
There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;
And though the last lights off the black West went
Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs—
Because the Holy Ghost over the bent
World broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings.

On the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit enters as a mighty rushing wind and presents itself to the apostles as tongues of fire. The presence of the Holy Spirit is essential for inspiring these apostles to organize the early church. As we engage in this annual celebration of Pentecost it is also essential for us to feel the Holy Spirit and allow it to illuminate our faith.

A big thank you to Tiffany DeAntonio (L), outreach coordinator for Community Library of Allegheny Valley, for her historical presentation honoring veterans this evening.

Originally created as Decoration Day to remember those who died in the Civil War, Memorial Day was declared in 1966 by President Lyndon B. Johnson to honor veterans of all eras.
