Genesis 21:9-13
Sarah and Hagar -
Grace and Law Part 2

Hagar was cast out. There was no compromise: She was cast out completely and permanently and took Ishmael with her.
Hagar represented the Law and Ishmael represented the flesh.
We must put our trust in Christ (Grace) and live by the Spirit not the flesh!
There is no record that Hagar ever married again. God gave His Law to the Jewish Nation only and never gave it to the Gentiles or the Church. Nine of the Ten Commandments are quoted in the Epistles as applying to believers today and we should obey them, but we are not commanded to obey the ceremonial laws that were given only to Israel.
Commandment #4 about keeping the Sabbath is not mentioned in the New Testament. There is no direct or indirect command for believers in the church age to observe the Sabbath as a day of rest or of worship. In fact, Colossians 2:16 releases the believer from the Sabbath rule. Jesus, the Lord of the Sabbath, has become for us our Sabbath rest, according to Hebrews 4: 1-11.
God rested from his work on the 7th day. When we rest in Christ, we rest from our work (law) into Him (grace)!
(Hebrews 4:10)
"For he that is entered into His rest, he also have ceased from his own works, as God did from His."
Jesus Christ is our Sabbath!!!!
Well Glory!!!!!!πŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

Genesis 21:9-13
Sarah and Hagar -
Grace and Law

Hagar represents the Mosaic Law given at Mount Sinai, which produces spiritual slavery because people cannot earn their own righteousness. Sarah represents the free promise of grace through faith in Christ. In Galatians 4: 21-31 Paul uses this comparison to show the difference between trying to reach God through human effort ( the law) versus receiving salvation as a free gift ( grace).
The Law was given to reveal sin (Romans 3:20) but not to redeem us from sin. Grace does not serve Law it is Law that serves Grace! The Law reveals our need for Grace and Grace saves us completely apart from the works of the Law.
The Law cannot give what only Jesus Christ can give: life, righteousness, the Holy Spirit, or an eternal inheritance. All of these blessings come only by grace through faith.
Hagar was a slave and gave birth to a slave. The Law produces bo***ge and not freedom.
Jesus saved believers from the guilt of sin and the heavy burden of trying to earn God's approval through strict religious rules. Guard your mind and your heart! Enjoy your relationship with Jesus and the freedom it gives!!!!!!!

Genesis 21:8-11
Isaac and Ishmael -
Spirit and Flesh

In Galatians 4:28-29 Paul makes it clear that Ishmael represents the believer's first birth (the flesh) and Isaac represents the second birth (the Spirit).
When you trust Jesus Christ, you experience a miracle birth from God. This is the second birth.
Abraham represents faith, and Sarah represents Grace, so Isaac was born "by grace ......through faith". (Ephesians 2:8-9)
This is the only way a lost sinner can enter the family of God.
Isaac was born rich. Isaac was an heir of all that his father owned, And God's children are heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ.
We are rich beyond measure!
Finally, Isaac was born free, while Ishmael was the son of a slave. Freedom is the key and one of the key blessings in the Christian life. Of course, Christian freedom does not mean anarchy; for that is the worst kind of bo***ge. It means the freedom to be and to do all that God has for us in Jesus Christ.
"No man in this world attains to freedom from any slavery except by entrance into some higher servitude", said Phillips Brooks and that higher servitude is a personal surrender to Jesus Christ.
Real Liberty comes from willfully replacing a destructive Master with a noble one - God! We are always bound by something whether it be habits, desires, or sin.
No one is more free than the child of God who delights in God's Will and does it from the heart.
That is true freedom!

Genesis 21:1-7
The Birth Of Isaac -
The Promised Son

The birth of Isaac was the fulfillment of God's promise.
It was also the rewarding of patience. And it was the revelation of God's power. Finally, the birth of Isaac was a step forward in the accomplishing of God's purpose. The future redemption of a lost world rested with a little baby boy. Isaac would begat Jacob and Jacob would give the world the 12 tribes of Israel, and from Israel the promised Messiah would be born.
Down through the centuries some of the living links in the chain of Promise may have seemed insignificant and weak but they help to fulfill the purposes of God. You may wonder if what you do is really important to God and His work in this world, but it is if you are faithful to trust His Word and do His Will.
