Today we gathered at the National Shrine to honor those lost on the 25th anniversary of September 11th, as well as for the heroes and all of those affected on that day. Over 250 people joined together on this day of remembrance, prayer, and reflection.

We are sharing some photos of the day and will share videos capturing the essence of the event over the next couple of days.

We will never forget. 🙏

Thank you to the 55 faith-filled women who spent last weekend with us for our three-day women’s retreat!

Our ‘Be It Done Unto Me’ retreat, which focused on the Wedding at Cana (John 2:1-11), “Do whatever He tells you”, included group sharing, praise and worship, Mass, and personal reflection. Hosted by Fr. Manny and Fr. Pat, the themed talks focused on the Seven Sacraments and how they help us grow spiritually by focusing on the story of Cana.

What a beautiful weekend to celebrate our faith and renewal together! Please join us in continued prayer for those who participated in the women’s retreat.

On Sunday, August 9, the National Shrine celebrated the veneration of the relic of San Jose Sanchez del Rio, a 14-year-old who was put to death in 1928 because he would not renounce his Catholic faith.

The shrine first received the relic in October, a piece of his collarbone, as it was petitioned from the bishop in Sahuayo, a town in the state of MichoacĂĄn, Mexico, where del Rio was from. We held a Rosary procession with mariachis, Mass in Spanish, and a social for the over 250 people in attendance. Many came from Port Chester, Mt. Vernon, Staten Island, and Yonkers, N.Y., as well as New Jersey.

“What a great way to grow spiritually with Jesus this weekend at the National Shrine,” Fr. Manny exclaimed. “These acts of faith of adoration, Mass, and veneration bring us closer to God and each other. We are looking forward to more events like these in the future.”

This past Saturday, the National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians held our annual Rise Up! Festival in celebration of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We started the day with an outdoor barbeque lunch and games on the field. The afternoon continued at the beautiful Outdoor Altar with live praise and worship music, Adoration, confession, and inspirational Mass celebrated by Most Reverend Pedro Bismarck Chau, D.D., Titular Bishop of Cadrum and Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Newark. Mass was concelebrated by Fr. Manny Gallo, director, Fr. Pat Angelucci, and Fr. Tom Junis. Those in attendance were invited to receive a blessing by Fr. Tom as a newly ordained priest.

We thank those who attended for your presence and support, and all of our volunteers!
