WORDS OF PRAISE Iona Abbey Worship Book Robin Knott
The world belongs to God,
the earth and all its people.
How good it is, how wonderful,
to live together in unity.
Love and faith come together,
justice and peace join hands.
If Christ’s disciples keep silent
these stones would shout aloud.
Open our lips, O God,
and our mouths shall proclaim your praise.
*OPENING HYMN #8 “Eternal Father, Strong to Save”
*OPENING PRAYER
God of grace, love, and communion, we confess that we have failed to love you with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbor as
ourselves.
We ignore your commandments, stray from your way, and follow other gods.
Have mercy upon us. Forgive our sin and raise us to new life so that we may serve you rightfully and give honor to your holy name.
*ASSURANCE OF GOD’S GRACE 2 Corinthians 5:17
Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation.
The old life has gone; a new life has begun.
In Christ Jesus we are made anew; we are made free!
Thanks be to God!
*PASSING OF THE PEACE
The peace of Christ be with you.
And also with you.
*RESPONSE OF PRAISE #447 “We Are Forgiven”
SCRIPTURE READING 1 Peter 5
This is the word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God!
ANTHEM “Humble King”

*HYMN OF RESPONSE #661 “Why Should I Feel Discouraged?”
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH A Proposed New Confession for the PC(USA) Unison
Before us, beneath us, beyond us, ever creating,
God breathes life into all that is, rejoicing in its abundant goodness.
All of creation sings praise to God.
As members of this wondrous creation, made in God’s image and likeness,
humanity echoes the overflowing and boundless love of the Creator.
Each of us, all of us—of every race, culture, language, nation,
ability, gender, and affection—are called to manifest God's image and likeness:
in our love for God, in our love for neighbors and strangers as ourselves,
and in loving communion with all creation.

Mission & Vision Statement
Adopted on September 10, 2024
We open our hearts and our doors to worshipping Christ in downtown Staunton as a visible witness to the Gospel.
We are called to be a congregation that…
Invites all people to faith in Christ.
Worships God in a vibrant community through discipleship, music, and fellowship.
Uses our resources, time, and talents in the service of the least of these.
Nurtures and strengthens those within and outside of our community.
Makes the best use of our historic downtown property to benefit others.
Serving the community with an open, affirming gathering of love.
