A prayer for Western North Carolina by Emma Churchman

God of mercy,
Be near to every household listening to the rain and remembering what it cost us before.

Calm the waters. Strengthen the banks. Protect the roads and bridges that are already fragile.

Cover our first responders, linemen, and neighbors who will show up in the dark with courage and compassion.

Protect the vulnerable: babies, elders, those living alone, and those carrying invisible trauma from the last storm.
And for every nervous system bracing for impact, bring peace that is steady and real.

Give us wisdom, clear thinking, and the help we need when we need it.
Make us a people who move toward one another in support and compassion.

Amen.
