As ICE activity increases here in Springfield, we want our immigrant neighbors to know something: You are our neighbors. You are not invisible nor disposable. And you are not alone.
At Central Baptist, we take seriously the biblical call to welcome the stranger, love our neighbor, and stand alongside those who are vulnerable. These are not merely religious sentiments. They are convictions that ought to have flesh and blood.
We oppose racial profiling, intimidation, and the dehumanization of immigrant families. We believe every person, regardless of immigration status, deserves dignity, due process, and the protection of their rights.
Our church is committed to being a place of prayer, hospitality, refuge, and solidarity.
Scripture reminds us:
“When an alien resides with you in your land, you shall not oppress the alien. The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself.”— Leviticus 19:33–34
We don't get to preach about welcoming the stranger on Sunday and turn our backs on them Monday.
There is room at this table. And we intend to keep making room.
