Confession

God of love, you meet us in the midst of the messiness of relationships and imperfect communities. We confess that we sometimes keep the peace by avoiding difficult conversations, or we seek confrontation but leave out compassion. Forgive us when we allow relationships to become distant rather than taking the hard steps towards reconciliation. Forgive us when we cling to our own “rightness” and are unwilling to listen to someone else's experience. Remind us of your Spirit’s presence with us in our listening and our gathering, and help us love and forgive one another. Amen.

Confession

Merciful God, your word guides us to ways of love, not domination or power over others. This is often a challenging path that requires our vulnerability, and moving forward in love takes practice and repetition. Forgive us when we attempt this path only in situations that offer guarantees of easy success. Forgive us when we respect the strong or powerful more than the weak, who have just as much capacity for love. Grant us courage for the task ahead, whatever burdens we bear. Renew our minds, that your law of love may permeate everything we do. Amen.

Confession

Jesus our Teacher, we seek your guidance on what should take priority in our lives, and you call us to love. However, sometimes we fear the vulnerability of offering love and not knowing whether it will be received. Forgive us when we act out of hurt and self-protectiveness more than self-giving. Forgive us when we hold back parts of ourselves from you and skirt the edges of deeper commitment. Comfort us when we meet rejection, and lead us deeper into your way of compassion and kindness.
