A message from NOW District President Mike Von Behren about the fires in our region:

"As fires are still burning and evacuation orders are still in place, it is too early to know who in these communities will be dealing with long-term impacts from these fires; yet we do know for sure who the one who saves is. The Lord says in Isaiah 43:3, 'for I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.'

Many across the NOW District would like to contribute in some way to care for those caught in these evacuations and who have experienced loss in these fires. Here are a few thoughts about how you can help:

1. Pray to the Lord our God, the Holy One of Israel, through our Savior Jesus Christ for favorable weather, protection for the firefighters, preservation of homes, restoration for those experiencing loss, and for all those agencies on the front lines of emergency response.

2. Give towards the fire recovery efforts through community relief organizations which are providing housing and food for evacuees.

3. Give towards our NOW LCMS Disaster Relief Fund linked in the comments (and also found by clicking the 'Donate' button on nowlcms.org — be sure to use the drop-down menu and choose NOW LCMS Disaster Relief Fund. Checks may also be mailed to 1700 NE Knott St., Portland, OR 97212, with "Disaster Relief Fund" in the memo line). These funds will be shared with our congregations in affected areas to use to care for those impacted by disasters like these so our congregations can offer such things as gift cards, help pay for temporary housing expenses, provide tangible items for those in need, and more, as a practical expression of the love of Jesus.

4. We are not collecting physical items, clothing, or food, but you may consider giving those items to food banks and mission organizations in your area."

You are invited to join us at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church for a Prayer Service on Wednesday, August 5, at 7:00 p.m.

As our community is impacted by the Spokane-area fires, we will gather in prayer for all those who have been affected, for the firefighters and first responders working tirelessly to protect lives and property, and for all others who are serving and providing support during this difficult time.

We hope you will join us as we lift our community and all those in need before the Lord.

The Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison was reelected to serve as our Synod President for the next triennium! Thanks be to God, and let us pray for our Synod and for President Harrison as he leads us over the next three years.

The Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison, having received more than 50% percent of the votes cast in the third ballot for the election of the president of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS), is the president-elect for the 2026–2029 triennium. It will be his sixth term in office.

May the Lord richly endue him with strength for continued service and make him a blessing to the Synod and to the church.

Special Presentation with Rev. Donavon Riley – July 11

On July 11, we will have the opportunity to hear from a dear friend, mentor, and pastor, Rev. Donavon Riley, as he presents on addiction, Jesus, and the resources Lutherans have in our toolbox to face these struggles in daily life.

Rev. Riley will speak from his personal experience as a former addict, a convert from atheism, and a parish pastor of nearly 20 years. Through his unique perspective, he will share stories of struggle, redemption, and hope while pointing us to the promises Christ gives His people.

The Christian life is one of clinging to our baptismal identity—the daily reality that the old sinner is drowned and the new creation is raised to walk in newness of life. We are not without hope. Rev. Riley will remind us of the ongoing battle with our sinful will, encourage us with God's promises, and direct us to the rest and peace found in Christ alone.

We invite everyone to join us for this encouraging and insightful presentation.
