For you—for us—this day. This blessing was inspired by the women we meet in the opening chapters of the Book of Exodus. The choices they make amid the currents of death, fear, and hatred call me to ask—What am I being called to be fierce about in this world?

FIERCE BLESSING

Believe me when I say
there is nothing
this blessing would not do
to protect you,
to save you,
to encompass you.

This blessing
would stand between you
and every danger,
every evil,
every harm
and hurt.

This blessing
would dare
to wade with you
into the waters that come
offering life.

It would make
a way for you
through the waters that come
threatening death.

I cannot explain
how fierce
this blessing feels
about you,
but I can tell you
it has more than pledged
itself to you;
it would lay down
its life for you
and not once
look back in regret
nor go in sorrow
for what it has chosen
to give.

And you—
so deeply blessed,
so utterly encompassed—
what will you save
in turn?

Not because
it is owed,
but because
you cannot imagine
failing to pass along
this grace
that casts its circle
so wide,
this love
that flows
so deep
through this perilous
and precious life.

The church building is open and we're here (quilting/crafting begins in 3 minutes!). We continue to pray for and support folks in our neighborhood and faith community who are experiencing displacement because their homes were destroyed or because they have needed to evacuate.

Our Petite Pantry is open -- we will have food and water in it and try to keep it re-stocked as we can.

Please connect with other resources via this website: www.spokanecommunityresources.org It is updated and revised regularly and includes a tab about volunteering and donating (if that's something you'd like to do).

Good and Gracious God, you are present with us in the midst of chaos, confusion, and discombobulation. Give us compassion, connection, and patience in the midst of this crisis. And, bring rain! Amen

UPDATE #3: Tomorrow's service is also CANCELED! You are welcome to worship at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Spokane, WA at 9:30 a.m.

UPDATE #2: Tonight's service is CANCELED! Stay tuned for information about tomorrow's service.

UPDATE: The church is NOT an evacuation site anymore as it is under an evacuation order.

In light of the extreme fire danger today, St. David’s will be open this afternoon from about 2pm onwards as a shelter. If the situation at the church changes, we will post that here.

There will also be a worship service at 7pm this evening: the Celtic service of Lammas (or, “loaf mass”).
