The Special Music today was special indeed. The tenors and basses of the choir gathered together and created an extraordinary sound as they sang “Bound for Jubilee.” This joyful song, composed in the manner of a spiritual, gave our lower voices an opportunity to sing their hearts out.

Sunday’s service featured guest soloist Maile Esperas. Maile shared her lovely alto voice, singing “Pan de Vida.” She is a voice student at Gonzaga University and is accompanied by pianist Margo Dreis.

Flutist Jane Nielsen here plays “Meditation” from Thaïs by Massenet. This beautiful solo, made more special by Jane’s silvery tone, was perfect for the Special Music spot in today’s worship service.

The postlude for today’s service was the dramatic “O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus,” arranged by Bill Wolaver and played here by pianist Cathy Brown.

Flutists Robin Johnson and Susan Stokes provided this lovely arrangement of “I Love Thee” by J. Ingall and D. Smith from Christian Harmony, for the Special Music last Sunday.

“The Lighthouse” was the Special Music for last Sunday. Alto Jo Detlaff sang wth her characteristic soulful style, that Jesus is the lighthouse and he saves us from the rocks of sin.

Last Sunday’s Special Music featured J. S. Bach’s beautiful Arioso from his Cantata no. 156, played here by cellist Cathy Brown. The beautiful soaring lines of this remarkable aria created just the right atmosphere for a peaceful Sunday morning.

Bass John Stramiello sings one of his favorite songs, “I Love to Tell the Story,” for today’s Special Music. His full, deep, bass sound is perfect to sing about Jesus and his love. “I love to tell the story because I know ‘tis true!”

The summer season has begun and at Northwood, our music worship has turned to Special Music as the choir takes a well earned break. Flutist Jane Nielsen here plays Elegy by Michael Baker, a beautiful lyric flute solo that is a favorite of the congregation.

Flutist Jane Nielsen took a beautiful anthem, “He Is My Savior, He Is My Friend,” and made it even more stunning with her awesome silvery tone, bringing the heartfelt words to life!
