🚨BOIL WATER ADVISORY ISSUED🚨

Please be advised, the City of Troy has issued a Boil Water Advisory for residents and businesses at the following addresses:

• 4 Taylor Lane
• 5 Taylor Lane
• 9 Taylor Lane
• 11 Taylor Lane
• 201 Pinewoods Avenue
• 209 Pinewoods Avenue
• 212 Pinewoods Avenue
• 215 Pinewoods Avenue
• Fairfield Road

The advisory has been issued due to necessary water valve repairs currently being conducted by the City's Quality-of-Life Action Crews.

As a precaution to protect public health, the Boil Water Advisory must remain in effect for at least 48 hours while water sampling is conducted. Crews are actively working to complete the necessary repairs and restore service as quickly and safely as possible.

Residents and businesses in the affected areas will be notified when the advisory has been lifted and it is safe to resume normal water use.

What You Should Do⬇
Residents and businesses in the affected areas should:
• Bring all water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes.
• Use bottled water as an alternative where possible.
• Continue following the Boil Water Advisory until the City officially announces that it has been lifted.

This advisory is being issued out of an abundance of caution to protect public health. The City thanks affected residents and businesses for their patience and understanding as crews complete this necessary work.

Parents talk with your children

A normal Thursday morning in Sumter, South Carolina ended with a mother's scream in her own front yard.

Geoffrey Hauptman kissed his wife goodbye and left for work. Minutes later, he called Betsy and told her to lock the doors. Someone was passed out in the yard. He was calling 911.

Betsy went room to room checking on their six children. She found five.

She ran to the front door to tell her husband Timothy was missing. Geoffrey looked at her. He shook his head. And she screamed.

Timothy Barnett, 13 years old, was lying in the front yard. He was gone.

Security footage from the night before showed Timothy sitting alone in the family car for nearly two hours, frantically scrolling through his phone in the dark. Nobody knew why. Not yet.

Police took his phone and his school Chromebook. Timothy had changed his passcode just before he died, and it took months to crack it.

Eleven weeks passed with no answers. Betsy called investigators twice a week. She drove to the station and refused to leave until someone spoke to her.

Then the truth surfaced.

A stranger with a New York area code had been contacting Timothy through a secret second Snapchat account. That stranger had an explicit photo of Timothy and was demanding $35 every single day to keep it from being posted online.

One of Timothy's last messages read: "Please. I am just a child."

He was a seventh-grade honors student at Alice Drive Middle School. He played baseball, held a yellow belt in karate, and practiced saxophone. His mother said he used to wake up every morning and brew her coffee before she even asked.

He left behind dozens of su***de notes addressed to the people he loved.

Betsy Hauptman has since filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Snapchat, alleging the platform was designed in a way that made her son easy prey. The case is now part of a massive federal consolidation involving more than 600 lawsuits against social media companies.

The FBI has received over 13,000 reports of online financial sextortion targeting minors. Most victims are young boys. Most of them suffer in silence because they are too ashamed to tell anyone.

Timothy never told a soul.

If your child uses Snapchat or any social media platform, have the conversation tonight. Not tomorrow. Tonight.

Rensselaer County DSS to Begin Accepting Child Care Assistance Applications

Troy, NY — July 14, 2026 — The Rensselaer County Department of Social Services (DSS) is pleased to announce that it will begin accepting applications for the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) starting Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
The Child Care Assistance Program helps eligible low-income families pay for childcare so parents and caregivers can work, attend school, or participate in approved training programs. The program is designed to support families while ensuring children have access to safe, quality childcare.
Beginning July 15, eligible residents of Rensselaer County may submit applications for childcare assistance through the Department of Social Services. Funding amounts and eligibility criteria are as determined by the state and federal governments and the county cannot amend those regulations.
Applicants should be prepared to provide documentation regarding household income, family composition, employment, education or training participation, and other information necessary to determine eligibility.
“We are pleased to reopen applications for childcare assistance and provide critical support to working families throughout Rensselaer County for this federal and state-guided program,” said Michael McMahon, Commissioner of the Rensselaer County Department of Social Services. “Access to affordable childcare is essential to helping parents remain employed, pursue educational opportunities, and build financial stability.”
