Pastor Matt and Mary Rose dive into Exodus 34, as God proclaims His own character from a cloud on Mount Sinai. Pastor Matt argues that this passage—specifically verses 6 and 7, which highlight God as compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in love—is the most foundational and frequently quoted text in the Old Testament. This moment marks a profound shift from a conditional relationship based on the law to an unconditional relationship rooted in God’s unwavering character (chesed or steadfast love) in spite of human failure, finding its ultimate fulfillment in Christ where divine justice and mercy intersect. Finally, they draw a theological with the word "passed by" as God manifested His glory and compassion which is mirrored when Jesus walks on the water in the Gospel of Mark.
