Today our synod begins the voting process for our President (it will continue over the next couple days).

Heavenly Father, we pray for all those voting and those running that You would uphold the unity of our synod and guide our leadership. No matter who is elected we know You are guiding us as we will seek to share the gospel with ever more people. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Pastor Matt and Mary Rose dive into Exodus 34, as God proclaims His own character from a cloud on Mount Sinai. Pastor Matt argues that this passage—specifically verses 6 and 7, which highlight God as compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in love—is the most foundational and frequently quoted text in the Old Testament. This moment marks a profound shift from a conditional relationship based on the law to an unconditional relationship rooted in God’s unwavering character (chesed or steadfast love) in spite of human failure, finding its ultimate fulfillment in Christ where divine justice and mercy intersect. Finally, they draw a theological with the word "passed by" as God manifested His glory and compassion which is mirrored when Jesus walks on the water in the Gospel of Mark.

Pastor Matt and Mary Rose continue their discussion of the events following the Golden Calf incident in Exodus 32. They discuss how the loss of God's presence is disasterous even if all else is given, how Moses continues in his role as mediator and calls upon God to remember His character and promises, and how God's answer isn't exactly what Moses asked for but is revealing of God's glory in the face of sin and brokenness.

Pastor Matt and Mary Rose discuss the nature of idol worship, Aaron's (and our own excuses for sin), what the Levites did and how it changes things moving forward in the story, and finally Moses taking up the role of intercessor and how his plea points us forward to Christ.

Today we hosted a meal and games in partnership with NYAP (National Youth Advocacy Program) for foster families, kinship care families and adoptive families (we can’t post pictures of the families for their legal protection). We had around 50 people and are so thankful for the opportunity to support families in this great work.

This is one way we’re seeking to love of our neighbor.
