Isle of Wight Christian Outreach Program

Isle of Wight Christian Outreach Program We are your neighbors, friends and family. We are an all volunteer group that wants to help out wherever and whenever we can with whatever we have.

We are an all volunteer organization that provides food, diapers, donated books, furniture, household items and linens to those in need in Isle of Wight and neighboring counties. In 1991, COP was founded when several churches came together for the purpose of having a fundraiser to assist those in need of help with the cost of winter fuel. We started with one Souper Saturday fundraiser, that has become an incredibly popular annual event that is held every October.

DID YOU KNOW....

80% of a child’s brain development occurs within the first 1000 days of life.

The single most significant factor influencing a child’s early educational success is an introduction to books and being read to at home PRIOR to beginning school.

One in three kindergarteners in Virginia fell below the benchmark of foundational literacy skills last year.

ALL registered children, birth through age 4, who reside in the county can receive a FREE age-appropriate book EACH MONTH by mail through the Isle of Wight Dolly Parton Imagination Library program! Sign up online or print a form for mailing by using the QR code or website on the flyer below.

The Isle of Wight program is funded by the State of Virginia (50%) and through local fundraising support (50%). Please consider becoming an Isle of Wight Imagination Library literacy partner to empower our local children with the lifelong gift of literacy by donating one-time or monthly using the website on the flyer below and designating "Isle of Wight Program".

Thank you!

Kirstin Cook is pictured with Isle of Wight Academy fourth graders December 16 as she picked up over 750 books they collected for COP's Food For Thought Literacy Initiative.

Fourth grade teacher Shannon Spain, who coordinated the drive which the students enthusiastically supported, said they had been discussing Caring and Kindness and "the Food For Thought program was the perfect way for us to put our words to action. The program is such a blessing to families in Isle of Wight County, and we were happy to have a small part in helping."

They also are making a donation to the DeGood Foundation with the money marked for the Isle of Wight Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

Food For Thought is very appreciative of this generosity which will go to enhance children's home libraries making daily reading more accessible and empowering children's futures through literacy!
