Rev’s Review and Preview for May 24, 2026

Last week we celebrated the ascension of Jesus. 40 days after Jesus rose from the dead, He ascended into heaven. The disciples thought everything was back to normal. Jesus is talking to them and then He just floats away. The disciples stand there looking up, confused and scared. But Jesus doesn’t leave them, or us, alone. Jesus sends the Holy Spirit to help us.

This week we meet the Helper, the Holy Spirit in a very dramatic way! There is no doubt the Holy Spirit has arrived. Wind, fire, speaking in tongues! The new church is off and running! The mission hasn’t changed. We are still here to grow the Kingdom. We are not alone either. We have the exact same Holy Spirit helping us! Thanks be to God!

Rev's Review & Preview for May 17, 2026

Last week was Mother’s Day and we talked about how a mother’s love, or a caregiver’s love is a reflection of God’s love. Jesus says he will never leave us orphaned. Even when He was about to leave this earth physically, and His disciples were scared, He said He wouldn’t leave us. He would send a helper, the Holy Spirit, to abide with us and in us.

This week, on Ascension Sunday, the disciples struggle with uncertainty after Jesus ascends to heaven, but Jesus redirects them from standing still in fear toward living faithfully in mission, prayer, and community. Again, we are reminded that Jesus does not abandon the world but entrusts it to ordinary people empowered by grace and the Holy Spirit. That’s us by the way. Christians are called to keep their eyes on heaven while keeping their feet active on earth through love, unity, compassion, and daily acts of discipleship.
