Flying home from a week in Greece with ~45 Lakepointe’rs tracing some of the steps of the Apostle Paul in Acts.

This location moved me… the probable site of the baptism of a wealthy woman in the Roman fashion industry named Lydia in Acts 16 who likely ended up funding a lot of Paul’s church planting and ministry.

"And on the Sabbath day we went outside the gate to the riverside... and we sat down and spoke to... a woman named Lydia." (Acts 16)

This location is…

✅ At ancient Philippi
✅ Outside one of the city gates
✅ The only river there

Here’s what made my eyes sweat…

In Paul's era, many Jewish men grew up praying the "Birkot HaShachar" prayers, where they would thank God daily they were “not a WOMAN, a SLAVE, or a GENTILE."

After Paul is saved he goes to Philippi and the first three people God saves are...

- A woman (Lydia)
- A slave (the slave girl with the spirit of divination
- A Gentile (the Philippian jailer)

Jesus Christ is FOR ALL PEOPLE.

Some of the biggest battles you’re facing right now… aren’t around you - they’re in your mind.

And if the enemy can influence your thoughts, he can start to drain your peace.

This is why Scripture reminds us 📖
“take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5

That doesn’t mean thoughts won’t come…it means you don’t just accept them!

You pause. Examine. And filter them through truth.

Because some thoughts are:

🚫Lies
🚫Fear
🚫Old wounds speaking
🚫Or distractions sent to steal your peace

Here’s what that can look like in real life:

• “I’m not enough”
→ Truth: You are chosen, called, and created with purpose (Ephesians 2:10)

• “God forgot about me”
→ Truth: He is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18)

• “Nothing is going to change”
→ Truth: God is always working, even when you can’t see it (Romans 8:28)

• “I’ll never get through this”
→ Truth: You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13)

• “I messed up too bad this time”
→ Truth: There is grace and no condemnation in Christ (Romans 8:1)

Taking your thoughts captive looks like:
✅ Catching the thought
✅ Checking it against God’s Word
✅ Choosing truth instead

Not every thought is truth!
And not every voice deserves your agreement. 🙏🤎

Faithful news here.

You can sit in church every Sunday. You can know every hymn by heart. You can quote scripture like a Bible trivia champion.

But none of that impresses God nearly as much as how you treat people on a random Thursday afternoon.

It’s not about how much scripture you know. It’s about how much scripture you live. And folks… that’s the hard part.

Because if we’re being honest, I struggle daily.

I struggle with holding grudges.

I struggle with secretly smirking when karma catches up with somebody.

I struggle with patience… and occasionally a little road rage if someone cuts me off before my coffee kicks in.

Basically, I struggle with just being a good human sometimes.

But what I’m not is complacent.

I’m not willing to shrug my shoulders and say, “Well, that’s just how I am.”

Oh, no ma’am.

I know my weak spots, so I talk to God about them. A lot. Most nights it sounds something like, “Lord, we’ve got some work to do tomorrow.”

And I believe that right there is the difference.

Because as Dale Renlund once said, “A saint is a sinner who keeps on trying.”

Well, Lord knows I’m trying.

And I sure hope you are too.

So here’s to less fake perfection and more honest progress.

Because faith isn’t proven by how loud we sing in church on Sunday…

It’s proven by how we live when nobody’s watching on Monday. 😉

“Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called…” 1 Timothy 6:12
