Flying home from a week in Greece with ~45 Lakepointe’rs tracing some of the steps of the Apostle Paul in Acts.
This location moved me… the probable site of the baptism of a wealthy woman in the Roman fashion industry named Lydia in Acts 16 who likely ended up funding a lot of Paul’s church planting and ministry.
"And on the Sabbath day we went outside the gate to the riverside... and we sat down and spoke to... a woman named Lydia." (Acts 16)
This location is…
✅ At ancient Philippi
✅ Outside one of the city gates
✅ The only river there
Here’s what made my eyes sweat…
In Paul's era, many Jewish men grew up praying the "Birkot HaShachar" prayers, where they would thank God daily they were “not a WOMAN, a SLAVE, or a GENTILE."
After Paul is saved he goes to Philippi and the first three people God saves are...
- A woman (Lydia)
- A slave (the slave girl with the spirit of divination
- A Gentile (the Philippian jailer)
Jesus Christ is FOR ALL PEOPLE.
