Say hello to the Rev. Lin Walton!

The Rev. Richard "Lin" Walton is delighted to have been chosen as the new Rector of St. Philip's Church in Southport. Before coming to St. Philip's, he was the Director of Spiritual Life at Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community in Asheville. Lin was ordained 27 years ago in the Diocese of Virginia, and he also has the privilege of being married to the Rev. Christie Olsen Walton.

The DOK is sponsoring six children in the back-to-school project called Christmas in July. With your generosity, we will stuff a backpack of school supplies and provide a complete outfit, including shoes, for each child. You may choose a tag from the tree in the nave and use the tag when you bring the item or use the link to see a supply list on Amazon. Our annual St. James Day Celebration is on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at 9 A.M. There will be no 5:30 service on Saturday. After the 9 A.M. service, there will be a potluck brunch in Bliss Hall.

St. James the Fisherman was founded by missionaries traveling by boat and docking under the trees at Gause's Landing on the Intracoastal Waterway. The church has grown from this humble mission to the parish on Main Street, Shallotte - the Church on the Hill.
Our parish is a place of belonging, where each member matters, and each person’s gifts of time, talent, and treasure are needed. Together we are the Body of Christ.

Lord God Almighty, you have made all the peoples of the earth for your glory, to serve you in freedom and in peace: Give to the people of our country a zeal for justice and the strength of forbearance, that we may use our liberty in accordance with your gracious will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

While Independence Day rightly celebrates national freedom, the church also prays more broadly for the well-being and unity of all people within the nation. The Collect for the Nation, appointed in the Book of Common Prayer, reminds the faithful that liberty finds its truest expression in justice, mercy, and mutual care. It calls the church to intercede for those who govern and for citizens alike—that all may seek the common good under God’s providence.
