Pangea Church

Pangea Church Pangea was a church that followed in the way of Jesus, to inspire others in the way of love in Seattle (Ballard). PLEASE SEE OUR FINAL FB UPDATE.

Permanently closed.

(We no longer gather but had an amazing season of life and ministry together) WE HAD AN AMAZING 8 YEARS BUT JESUS HAS INVITED US TO MOVE INTO MINISTRIES OUTSIDE OF Pangea.
—————

At Pangea, we think church should be both fun and sacred. Both energetic and contemplative. Both innovative and ancient. Both relevant and deep. Through creative preaching, lively music, artful expression, and contemplat

ive liturgy, we create a space for regular people to engage with God. No matter where you are in your spiritual journey, you are welcome with us. On Sundays we come together to worship God. Our style is quite modern (guitar-driven music, for instance) but we also lean into ancient practices (especially the Eucharist [or Communion] and liturgy) which foster a sense of mystery. Some would call us an "ancient-future" church expression. On any given Sunday we will incorporate modern worship songs, ancient prayers, holy sacraments, engaging video, and transformational sermons. Worship lasts for about an hour and fifteen minutes (give or take 5 mins). If you worship with us, you might compare our "style" to the following fusion: Mennonite theology (yeah, we're kind of peaceniks), Anglican liturgy (we take the eucharist every week), contemporary music (and not cheesy either), and engaging preaching (relevant and hopeful). We have Kids programing from zero - 5th grade during our worship gathering. We also have numerous ways for folks to contribute to our cause through using their gifts and serving in areas of need. Our vision is simple, yet profound; costly, but rewarding; self-sacrificial, but humanizing:

*A church that follows in the way of Jesus,
to inspire others in the way of love.*

We gather in two different modes: a Sunday Worship Gathering and in neighborhood-based groups called Villages. In some ways, Sundays are get-togethers for our Villages from around the city. New folks are invited to either or both types of gatherings. Worship Gatherings: Sundays at 10:30am

Location: Campus of St. Luke's -- 5710 22nd Ave NW, Seattle, Wa 98107

CORE VALUES:

Hope | The world as it is, isn’t the world as it will be. Inclusion | Communities of love offer embrace, not exclusion. Peacemaking | We practice nonviolence and contend for others. Transformation | Knowing and following Jesus makes us more human. Mystery | Ancient faith fosters wonder and refuses to put God in a box.

After 8 years of ministry in Seattle, Pangea Church has discerned that it is time to celebrate what God has done through this ministry and to send out our remaining core members into new ministries. While it is tempting to be saddened by this news, we choose celebration as we recognize that everything has a lifecycle. Jesus truly transformed many lives as a result of this small church plant.

For several months we had been discerning what Pangea 2.0—post-vaccine Pangea—might look like. Over the past year and a half so much has changed in our world and in the lives of people who called our church their spiritual home. For a variety of reasons, some families and individuals chose to step away from Pangea during that extended season. As our numbers became smaller, we began to discuss the possibility of a “house church.” From June—July we met, prayed, processed, and created a safe environment for folks to wisely discern what is best for them in this season of life. That is how we ultimately came to this decision.

We want to thank all of those who have supported this experiment in church planting, all the way back to when it was a dream the Willemses held back in 2010. When they moved to Seattle in 2013, the support and prayer was truly felt from around the world. That initial support then led to a visible core group, which then led to a public worship launch in 2015. All of this, it should be made clear, was made possible by the Brethren in Christ family of churches. What a gift our denomination has been during all of these years.

We want to thank St. Luke’s Episcopal Church for being a gracious host to our church since 2016. The relationship between our two churches has truly been a gift to us!

We want to also thank all of the people who worked at various levels of leadership, from lay leaders to staff members. This was never a solo project.

Lastly, thanks to all of you who took a courageous step into the doors of either a home group or a Sunday morning worship environment and joined us in worship, community, and service. Numerous lives were changed and friendships forged: all because you decided to spend a season of your life with us at Pangea. May Jesus walk with your as your Lord, guide, and companion gently leading you into whatever God’s next best step for your life may be.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

At Pangea, as it is with many churches, as the pandemic restrictions are slowly lifted, we have a lot to discern about what church looks like after all that has happened. This summer we are having intentional meetings and times of worship for our core group. As we do this, we our processing what the fall might look like. So, at this time, we are not hosting public worship gatherings, but will let you all know what we have planned for the fall season once we have discerned our next steps. Thank you to everyone who has supported our ministry over the years—both near and far!
